2008: Who's Up?

Does anyone have any GOOD speculation as to who the next challengers are? Before you Democratic Hillary buffs chime in, let me say "No" for you real fast. Dems may be hurting, but they remember Mondale/Ferraro. Take Hillary and make her the new Mondale in this situation.

Exactly.

What about you Reps? Cheney is a smart man, but I don't think you all want to put your eggs in his basket.

I'm all ears for this.

Do you think McCain can pull it off? I mean didn't he kinda wander from the Reps' core a tad bit this past election?

Rudy, I can see as an easy choice. World-reknowned, popular, and with enough ties to make it without much effort.

Ryan, I am interested in the opposite side. Obama won't do it because he is still fresh to the game and has to build up more to his name before he can win a national endorsement (although his appearance at the Dem convention this year will make a great impact on any future bids he makes. He will forever be known for that).

P.S. Are the Greens officially done? Is this it?

P.P.S. Yes, Aaron. It is always idiot vs idiot, it is how many idiots choose to vote two years prior that makes the difference.

Not a chance. He pissed the GOP leadership off with his refusal to immediately and forcefully quash rumors that Kerry wanted him in his cabinet etc

But, I think his hat will be in the ring and I think he's courting GW

and left of center for a GOPer. He may offend some of the base and as a result have a hard time getting the nod from the party - but I think he may be more popular with more Americans.... but that doesn't mean he'll be more popular with more Americans that vote... and he could make the hard right stay home like they did w/GW 1.

3rd party people don't recognize that its easier to effect their reforms from within than withuot.... meaning.... join one party or another and try to effect platform from the inside... works better.

I think you're completely wrong. I think Hilary will run, and I think she has a very good chance of winning too. She has built a very moderate record and has Republicans all over the East Coast raising money for her. She is no Mondale because she knows what has to be done to get elected. I believe that she is smart enough and flexible enough to make the public think that she is a real moderate who can bring the country together. I also think she could take 60% of the female vote nationwide. Anyway, the attitudes people have about her in Texas are quite different in much of the country.

For the Repugs, Guiliani won't ever make it past the evangelical loonies in the primaries. McCain won't suck enough GOP dick. And Cheney will probably spontaneously combust before 2008. I think that if Hilary makes a serious bid, the only prominent gopper who can beat her is Condi Rice. She could cut into the Dem base by pulling over black votes and nullifying the female effect.

There isn't a chance in hell. Like I've always said, 90% of the people who claim to be Libertarians are really just Republicans who don't like to pay taxes and want to be able to buy grenade launchers at the sporting goods store. Start questioning them on the actual Libertarian platform and they'll turn into a puddle of water.
