I hate to say it, but this does reek of a coverup. Obviously they felt the source strong enough to print the article. But now, they try to retract, with the White House right there with em. B.S.

We should round up some of our Jerry Falwell's and his followers, and some of the crazy clerics and their followers and put them on a deserted island to have a holy war with eachother. It would be great, we could sell it on pay per view and take bets on the outcome in vegas. Then we can find out who's god is better at slaying the unbelievers...the winner can be crowed the God of War! and have a playoff with the agnostics. Nothing screams religion and tollerance like a head on a spear!

Another perfect example of how many in the media jump at any chance to make the US and its soilders out to look like the devil. Shamless people consumed by their hatred for this administration and its efforts abroad. Will they take responsibility for the dead in Afghanistan due to this bunk story? Doubt it, they're probably still pleased at the damage done. Despicable.

they run the story the american people love to read it (kinda like watching a car wreck) they get more for advertising, hey make more money and run more stories....in the end its our own fault for refusing to change the channel or stop reading the publication whne they run this type or article.

As much as they try to hold themselves up to a higher standard, the media in America is a business, and as a business they will run stories that their readers/viewers want to see because thats how they pay the bills. If you want change unsubscribe to their publication and turn off the TV, otherwise your simply fueling the problem.

I have no subscription to Newsweek, neither did anyone in the Middle East. Its not at all the kind of stories I want to see run, and no I am not at all fueling this problem, I am combating it.

I stand corrected, the people that do subscribe to newsweek are the reason that articles like that get published. If people enjoy reading stories like that the media will continue to produce them. Not to mention the many thousands of other news organizations that pick up the story and discussions like this very one we are having giving them additional press.

I remember the week before the Iraqi election, they ran a cover story on the insurgents(foreign fighters). The headline was 'Insurgents: Who they are, and why the election will not stop them'. The front page included 4 masked terrorists with grenade launchers, machine guns and mortars. Perfect timing as usual. Instead of highlighting the election and what might come of it, they had a piece showing the accomplishments of the insurgents at that time.

Yay for foreign fighters!
