china's refusal to put their currency on the market and their centrally planned economy permits them to have deflated currency values such that manufacturing is moving there in vast herds.... once they've secured the infrastructure (paid for by foreign investment) they'll control the means of production in so far as other nations will have relatively few domesticly produced wigits.....which will permit them a great deal of foreign policy power such that they may well maintain a global hegemony through economic control.... or something like that...

We're not invading NK - they have nukes. It is our, wise, policy not to attack nuclear armed countries....and especially ones run by raving nutjobs. They are both commies.....well....welshdj will argue that one with you.... but they are both centrally planned economies run by despots. China did support NK in 1952 (it was '52 wasn't it?). given those factors I'm still confused why we'd go to war with China....

declaring war on China would make no more sense than China declaring war on the US. There's too much economic gain to be had between the two nations to get into an economic conflict. In fact, China is buying up available US tbills, encouraging the US to borrow more money and further fuel the global economy. Will China be the next super power? China has been carefully playing its cards well and so it is VERY likely they will be the next super power. As far as seeking democracy in China, there are still scores of people that would entertain the idea, but as Capitalism takes hold and the quality of life of Chinese citizens continue to rise, the push for any kind of "regime" change may fall second to pursuing economic prosperity. I think we'll find the big push for democracy to occur in Taiwan, but even there it's a divided issue. A lot of my taiwanese friends and those that i have met are pro-USA and a few even pro-Bush, but have stated that if given a choice between an independent Taiwan or to remain under Chinese rule, they all made it clear to me that they are very proud of their Chinese ancestry and would choose Chinese rule (modified democracy 0 / modified communism 1 ?). Now, they obviously don't represent the views of every Taiwanese citizen, but it's interesting out of these 20 some-odd Taiwanese nationals I have met from Dallas to San Antonio, that they would all have similar view points.

It's more like we're playing chess with China and Russia than going to war... we'll see what happens though. If a war actually goes down, it might be because both governments are interested in reducing population... so don't join the friggin army reserves.
