The extremests of this nation are out of controll...now that the Left is renaming schools its about time for the NRA to pop up with some loony gun legislaton for us.

I mean, come on. The individuals who are in this fight to rename this school need to take a closer look at Jeffersons views regarding slavery. They need to read his will, and look at the fact that he purchased slaves(but opposed the re-selling of them for the use of slavery) He purchased land, and let them live on the land that was eventually given to them upon his death.

Not only that, he paid them annually because he thought slavery was morally wrong. He proposed bill after bill in the Virginia legislature that proposed to free the slaves. Even though the bills were normally killed by one or two votes, he along with George Washington still fought to slowly free them as he and many others saw that freeing slaves 'immediately' would risk a civil war, one that would inevitably happen.

The fact that they are so ignorant of history should void them of voicing their opinions on this issue.

It was western civilization as a whole that waged a campaign against slavery around the world. These guys should be held up as the great thinkers of that era. Instead, it seems as if history is slowly being re-written.

The true loss here is that up until this was brought up as offensive, knowledge was still being taught without fail. The name of a school should not hinder the learning that goes on inside of it in any way, shape, or form. If we were changing things based on name alone and how we each perceive them as offensive or not, nothing would have a name.
