| Students could get a seat in Austin...
For more then 30 years students' in Texas' public universities have pushed for a seaat on the governing boards. Now, with ounly a precious few days left this legislative session, theyhope they'll finally prevail. A proposal by Rep. Patrick Rose, D- Dripping Springs, would put a student on the board of regents for every public university system in the state. Student's wouldn'tget a vote like the other nine members, but at least they'd have a voice, supporters say. Rose's bill missed last week's deadline to pass the full House. He intends to keep it alive by attaching it to a Senate Bill Picking Student Regents If it passes, here is how the bill will work *Student government on the campus at each public university would take applications *Five names would be forwardeed to the system chancellor *The chancellor would foward at least two names to the governer *the governor would select the student, as he does all regents... so, if passed the student gets to watch the proceedings, doesn't get to vote like the other nine members, but he'd still have a voice the article states... Yea a voice without a vote, if that counts! |
