![]() ![]() | ATTN: All My Hispanic Brothers and Sisters!
I just saw this article on Yahoo and I just want to know what you guys think. I was born in the US and I am for these people having a drivers license. I've never understood why we do this to our own people. We tend to turn our backs on them because we tend to think we are better than them. I've seen fellow hispanics treat an immigrant like trash and I always wanted to punch them. These people just want what our forefathers wanted when they crossed over years ago and that is a better future. I do need to research this way more but just going with my gut feeling here is that I think these people should be given a chance. WASHINGTON - A majority of Hispanics born in the United States don't think illegal Hispanic immigrants should be given drivers' licenses, according to a new poll. if (window.yzq_a == null) document.write(""); if (window.yzq_a) { yzq_a('p', 'P=3ZGnCkSOwhW15VK6QpVecgarRHSWz0MCEX8ACtyS&T=13nd u6f9r%2fX%3d1124209023%2fE%3d8903239%2fR%3dnews%2f K%3d5%2fV%3d1.1%2fW%3d8%2fY%3dYAHOO%2fF%3d50448373 5%2fS%3d1%2fJ%3d60C28E44'); yzq_a('a', '&U=1399tatqa%2fN%3dEcnbBkSOxJY-%2fC%3d355228.6664456.7813804.1414694%2fD%3dLREC%2 fB%3d2835529'); } http://bc.us.yahoo.com/b?P=3ZGnCkSOw...%2fB%3d2835529 Most foreign-born Hispanics disagree, according to the polling for the Pew Hispanic Center. Six in 10 Hispanics born in this country approve of measures to prohibit illegal immigrants from getting drivers' licenses, while two-thirds born in another country disapprove of such measures. The difference between foreign-born Hispanics and native-born Hispanics on the driver's license issue highlights the disparity between the two groups on several issues. Foreign-born Hispanics take a more positive view than native-born Hispanics on whether immigrants strengthen the United States. Almost nine in 10 foreign-born Hispanics say immigrants strengthen the country, while two-thirds of Hispanics born in the United States feel that way, according to the poll. "Among Latinos in the United States, there's a majority that views immigrants favorably, but there is a significant minority concerned about unauthorized immigration into the country and its impact," said Roberto Suro, director of the Pew Hispanic Center. Two-thirds of Hispanics in the U.S. said undocumented migrants help the economy by providing low-cost labor. Again, foreign-born Hispanics were more upbeat about the impact of undocumented migrants than those born in this country. Most Hispanics feel the number of immigrants coming in the country should stay the same or be reduced, with only a third saying the numbers should increase, according to the poll done for Pew and another done for Time Magazine. Three-fourths in a Time poll of 503 Hispanic adults said people in the United States illegally are taking jobs that U.S. citizens don't want. The Time poll was taken from July 28 to Aug. 3. The Pew study also looked at how Mexicans feel about trying to get into the United States. Almost half of Mexicans, 46 percent, surveyed in May said they would go to the U.S. if they could. About two in five said they would be inclined to go live and work in the U.S. without authorization. "The desire to migrate is not a phenomenon of the poor and poorly educated," Suro said. "The inclination to migrate is powerful in the middle class in Mexico, even those with college educations say they would go to the United States if they could." The survey of Hispanics in the United States was conducted for the Pew Hispanic Center from June 14-27 by ICR and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. In Mexico, Pew surveyed 1,200 adults in May and the margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3 percentage points. |

I'm all for people coming from other countries and becoming legal citizens of the United States. I have no problems there. I'm going to have to say that I do not agree with giving illegal immigrants licenses. Why should they be given such a thing if the majority of them don't even have insurance? I can't even count how many times someone I know has been hit by an illegal immigrant with no insurance. I say if they want the opportunity to have a license, they should have to have insurance. Honestly, I think the whole idea of giving illegals the same rights as legal citizens defeats the purpose of citizenship. |

the operative word in that title is ILLEGAL. while i understand that they are here illegally for work, like tekkie said, if one of them happens to hit you or something what then? no insurance, no permanent address, no phone number, no nothing. and i bet that it would be a hit and run since they certainly don't want to be in the presence of a cop and reveal they're an illegal imigrant. another issue that i think goes along with this is whether or not they can speak english. i feel for them in their situation but there are many other imigrants here who came legally and have worked just as hard for everything they have. i don't think illegals should be given the same rights as those who did it all by the book. |

NO DRIVER NO MATTER WHAT RACE OR ETHNICITY SHOULD BE ON THE ROAD WITHOUT INSURANCE other than that your issue is not really one to worry about i don't care who you are just have insurance because if you hit me, YOU will be paying out of pocket for the damage done to my car and that won't be pretty for anyone involved |

The Bracero Program. Bring that back, and you can start to solve a majority of these issues. And for those we dont know what it is, its basically a temporary workers visa. As for the Hispanics born here who turn their backs on foreign born Hispanics, just remember this: In everyone elses eyes, there is no distinguishing between you and Juanito selling tamales on the corner. Youre still just a Mexican. Or Cuban. Or whoever else immigrates here "illegally". |

I agree that those wanting to become American citizens should go through the proper channels in order to obtain said citizenship, BUT the demand for illegal immigrant labor is so great that many dont see the point in waiting for a legal pass into this country. Therefore, you have to look at alternative solutions to the problem. Thats why I brought up the temporary workers visa. It allows companies to fill low level positions that most Americans dont want and provides the govnmnt with a way to track those entering this country. | |
