![]() | Question About Base Closings...
I will admit that I do not completely understand the driving forces behind the base closings that are going on around the country - I've been working too much to keep up with news on an in-depth level. However, I seem to recall conservatives bashing Clinton for years after the he closed bases during peacetime and now we are seeing widespread base closings during wartime under Bush, yet the Clinton critics are silent. Am I missing something here? Are the factors of which I am unaware that make these base-closings different. I am asking sincerely here because I really don't know.

my only question in the base closings is, does it mean the dod will get less money each year because they have less bases to run? sadly the anwser is no, their budget will get bigger each year. wonder what they do with all that money? anyone remeber right before 9-1 how rumsfeild said the dod had "lost" over a trillion dollars? hahahahahaha i love the fact that 95% of the population has no ideal whats going on. idiots |

I am crushed that the BRAC is even considering closing Walter Reed. I was at Walter Reed for almost 3 months after I was injured in Iraq and it is the best damn hospital that we have. Seriously I am shaking with anger right now. I am so pissed off. The treatment that I received at Walter Reed and the hospitality that they gave me family I will forever be grateful for.

A couple notes: 1) Walter Reed is closing, but in its place is a more modern facility at the Naval Base in Bethesda. I don't know if you have ever checked that one out, but the word is that the new hospital(which will be renamed Walter Reed) has better amenities and such. I've never been to either though, so I'm just going off what I've read. 2) For Ryan, I think one of the differences between these closings and previous ones is that this one doesn't entail much(if any) in the way of reducing our forces. It's more of a mass reorganization than it is a reduction in troop levels. I'm sure there are plenty of critics though, as something this massive is bound to have quite a bit of controversy.
