Done and done earlier today. Felt good to be able to do SOMETHING. Actually, the President of UTD sent out a school wide email asking for everyone to make a donation if they could. Awesome.

does anyone have a good resource for what things are needed and where one may go to donate?

I'm sure $$ to the Red Cross is important but do they need actual "stuff?" Water, blankets, medicine, medical supplies, blood, etc etc etc?

They actually need volunteers more than anything right now. They don't have enough people to handle all the money that is coming in. I guess that's a good AND bad thing.

Well it is pretty bad over here guys. So anything you can get over here is cool.....and I mean anything.

Baton Rouge for the most part is ok. We took a lot of wind damage and that caused broken power lines and trees. It's New Orleans and the nearby cities that were devastated. Slidell is toast, Covington/Mandeville is toast, and you guys have seen the footage from New Orleans totally underwater.

As soon as they open the roads up, I'm going to back to my neighborhood in Slidell to assess the damage there. Unfortunately, ALL phone lines are gone around New Orleans and surrounding cities. And we are just getting power and phone back in Baton Rouge(fortunately I live by the hospital so the power never went off).

Basically, we're getting a scenario of a non-fallout nuclear weapon right now.

But us Bayou Boys have alligator skin and we'll get through this unfortunate event.

Major Thanks to Yolanda, who writes:

I've spoken with the Red Cross and the Salvation Army and there are
about 200 refugees from Hurricane Katrina taking shelter here in Dallas.
They are at the Samuel Grand Rec Center and the Salvation Army Carr P.
Collins Shelter (around the corner from the University). I am taking up
collections of things they are in desperate need for and will deliver
them on Friday afternoon. If you would like to donate please bring them
to the KTC ....

(Heading south on IH 35E. Take the Beckley/12th Street exit. The exit road becomes 12th St. Stay to the right when 12th Street forks just after Polk Street. Turn right on Winnetka (2 streets past the fire station at the corner of Polk and 12th); the KTC address is 312 S. Winnetka Ave., Dallas, Tx., 75208.)

....any time from now till early fri am and I will take them.
The delivery on Friday afternoon will be the best because these items
are really really needed.

Needed by Salvation Army

Water
Socks (especially children)
Underwear

Needed by Red Cross

Socks (children's)
Similac baby formula with iron
T shirts (all kinds)
Bath towels**
Underwear (especially children's)
Teddy bears and stuffed animals
Diapers (all sizes)**
Coloring books and crayons
Overnight kits (with lotion, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant etc)**
Pre-paid gas cards (some folk drove as far as they had money and gas to
get to and are trying to get to relatives)
