Its not that he sent everyone to the superdome, its that he sent everyone to the superdome to die. He had no supplies there, no control, no security, a complete lack of leadership on the part of NO. If you ask people to go to the superdome, better have water there to give them. The NO officials knew exactly what would happen if the levees broke, and they knew this storm was well above the limit, they should have had all these busses in NO last week before the storm if he knew so many people would not otherwise be able to get out. He sure does a hell of a job bussing all those carless people to the polls on election day, but he can't bus them out of town to save their lives? shameless, now he'll blame Bush.

I think he probably sent them (after consulting various people) to what they thought was the safest place.

True, but again, where else could they have of gone? Stayed in thier attics? I think it was a desperate move in a desperate time. And it's not just NOLA that is in trouble. I have relative in MI that are missing. Along with inlaws that are missing outside of NOLA. My crazy Dallas Cop (former NOLA stationed Coast Gaurd) brother has headed that way to search for his sons Grandmother himself. He's a better man than I...

Im not saying it was a bad decision to send the people to the superdome, Im saying that it is obvious due to the fact that babies and elders are dying from dehydration in the halls of the superdome, that he did not properly prepare the superdome, and if he knew so many people could not get out of town, he should have brought buses in days before the storm. It is HIS CITY, he knows best what HIS people need. He is the first official to blame. thats all.

I am pretty sure they handled it the best they could when it was presented. I'm also pretty sure they didn't expect it to be as devastating as it was. We've never really seen a hurricane of this proportion. I'm not saying they did everything right, but I do applaud him for his no-nonsense real approach to the problem... especially considering the stress that he is under right now. Hell, I don't even really think that his voicing his frustrations against the government agencies on national TV was a 'professional' move... but I still applaud him for his honest approach.

If I still had my flatbottom boat, I would have left the night after the storm, Ive been upset about not having my boat ever since. I never ever thought someone like me with a boat could make it down to NO and save lives before FEMA could, but that is what has been happening all week. Fishermen and boaters from all over the region are the real heros here, the storys will come out for years. God Bless them and your crazy Dallas cop brother.

Im just a little put off by his shifting of blame to the federal level, thats all Mike. I agree with you that it is good that he is making NO NONSENSE type statements to make clear the desperation of the situation, but HE is the one that is a week late and a million dollars short with this real approach. All Im saying is that he needs to look at what he has done and not done before he does the typical blame it on Bush dance. Everyone, everwhere is doing all they can for these people now, and it will be a shame if these NO officials come out of this blamless while the rest of country falls in line with the blame it on Bush crowd.
