President Bush on Friday urged the United Nations to address the findings of its new report implicating Syrian and Lebanese officials in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Bush called the report "deeply disturbing." Hariri, a leading anti-Syrian figure in Lebanon, was killed by a bomb containing at least 2,200 pounds of military explosives.

so when members of the UN were against our invasion of Iraq, he thumbed his nose at them and went in anyway. now he wants them to look into this "deeply distubgin" situation.

my personal hot button are people who apply or live by a double-standard. if he's not going to respect the authority of the UN, then he can't call on them to exert that same authority.

Wait, so you were upset with him for going against the UN in the first place, and now you're complaining about him trying to cooperate with the UN? Are you saying you would rather he just kept on turning his nose up at them? I get the feeling that at the point, no matter what he does he's taking criticism.

Nail, hammer, head. It's more than Xian that he gets that from, though. Being the President is not an easy task, but some wield the authority with a lot less scrutiny.

The UN is not correct because its the UN. I'd be more inclided to find faith in the notion that the UN is wrong because its he Un but that's another discussion. When the UN takes a position consistent with the best interests of the US we'll support that position and when it doesn't we won't. That is the duty of the Federal Gov't - to act in the best interest of the US. (now, reasonable peolpe can disagree on what those interests are and how they are best served but ultimately the decision is made by the current administration)

there's a difference between "agree with" and "respect".

when he disregarded the UN's objections to his invasion of iraq, i disagreed with the decision but respected that it was his decision to make. in this case, i agree with the action and have no respect for the decision making.

am i clear as mud now?
