Why have the jews been hated/persecuted through out the ages?

The mechanisms of dispersion are push and pull.
Jews are pushed out by persecution and exile. Some are pulled into other lands by captivity. Some are lured by hopes of religious tolerance or chances to make a better living. Sometimes, Jews are even invited into other lands and kingdoms.

also it's interesting to note that when your fellow jewish man states that you and your family are not worth a cow(google "a cow in israel is worth all the jews in europe)

then if your OWN fellow thinks this, why should the world think anything different?

This is opinion based on fact (so I'll keep it short):

Creation - God makes man and woman.

Old Testament - You have the seeds of Noah rolling around the world and then their split into different cultures and peoples. Somewhere in the mix, we get Hebrews. God speaks to them and names them as the "Chosen". Everyone else gets envious and through their own actions and inaction, become slaves and freed.

Roman Rule/New Testament - Hebrews offer up Jesus and Rome kills him. Shared blame, but focus goes to Hebrew faith and followers. Catholicism's rise and adaptation of the Bible turns fervent believers into enraged sycophants for religion and its sometimes "misguided" ways.

Current times - Going back to Old Testament times, the Middle East is a constant struggle for land and claims to birthright (lending to past envy), religion is at an all-time high (thus lending to frenzy), and we are left with a people who hold a nice tie in to one of the last remaining Superpowers in the world.

There's my explanation, be it right or wrong (without bias, might I add).

I would say add to that, they can be extremely xenophobe and do not like to mix with other cultures, even if they are living outside of "their land."

I remember studying how the germans after WWI hated the fact that the jews still had lots of money and power in the economy. Wasn't that more or less what led the spaniards to chase them during the crusades?

They haven't always been persecuted, though they've certainly been persecuted as much as many other races.

pretty much any people that has been displaced by colonization. their persecution/irradication just didn't get documented.

For time comparisons, I'd cite the gypsy's / pagans / and various other "minorities" (though they weren't always such) and black people.

For sheer numbers, the Russians (stalin killed, what, 10million? Willing to be corrected on those, my memory for stats is hazy).

To go with any number of smaller indigenous peoples throughout history, who suffered far worse propotional losses to the "superior" races than the Jews have and did.

The comment on "haven't always" was based on the, at least tenative, partnership the muslims and the jews shared around the time of the Ottoman Empire, the jews being the business people that transcended national boundaries to deal in and out of that empire, particularly with Europe.

None of those mentioned have been persecuted as harshly AND for as long, but seperate those two factors and there are civilisations that have been persecuted worse.
