This is pure comedy.

Reid & co. are using the Libby indictment(even though Fitzgerald concluded there was no conspiracy against Wilson and Plame) as a pedestal in order to push for an investigation into pre-war intelligence.

Didn't we already do this?

Wasn't the SIC shown the same information as the President? Didn't they too approve of action against Iraq?

Didn't we conclude that no one lied us into this war?

actually no, only phase I of the 2 parts of that promised process has been accomplished thus far. they are talking about completing phase 2.

I've had a great dea o ffaith and confidence in Cheney (I know he's the anti-Christ to most of the left). However, should it be true that he knew the intel to be false and kept that from decision makers - then we've got a real and troublesome problem with how quickly we can find a rope and a tree

they did know that the evidence they were presenting as proof was questionable though....

But given a choice of errors it was chosen to err on the side that presumed the largest potential threat.

Had the President chosen to disregard the proposed threats and done nothing and then find out he was wrong after NYC was nuked (yeah - I know a streth but ratchet it down a couple notches and your in real possibility territory) the people would be justiified in calling for his head on the city gates.

I understand your point to be that the reliance was unreasonable... (presuming you're) not an expoert on the topic nor privy to the evidence the Senate and Executive were/are... is that a fair charge?

Its saying "proof" as required in a court of law is a foolish standard to use in deciding whether a nasty despot has WMD....

There's been no accusation that the administration produced no evidence in support of their claims.

The debate has been on how accurate/reliable the intelligence was, whether it was sufficient (quantitatively) and whether (even if all true) that was a reasonable basis for war.

As I said, given a choice of errors I think it wiser to presume Sad'em had'em and be wrong than to presume he didn't and find out we were wrong when he used them. I'm fine knowing you disagree.

Not to interject, but you assertion that no proof what-so-ever was given before going to war is grave exaggeration of what really happened. There was 'proof', and many other nations' intelligence agencies ascribed to the same conclusion ours came to. However the Administration had to present the intelligence in definitive terms when the intelligence only provided probabilities.

Well for one I don't buy he would have launched them at the US even if he did have them. That makes no tactical sense whatsover.

However, that they decided to act based on your "choice of errors" is a far cry from what we were sold, and that doesn't even address whether some aspects of their pitch were knowingly false.
