This whole unity shit democrats are pushing is just another weak attempt to try to win a midterm election with absolutely no platform.

Partisanship isn't always a bad thing. The idea of having two competing platforms better serves the public that would chose which one it agrees with on the ballot during elections. Moreover, if you voted for members of a particular party expecting them to uphold promises they made in their campaign and the platform they defended it makes elections meaningless if they go into Congress and forego all of that in the name of bipartisanship for things the public never wanted.

What is bad about partisanship is the way it gets played out in this country. It boils down to theatrical games and media incitement by people like Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken, and ultimately that voids all real political discussion that the public should be exposed to. You look at the European parliaments, they have complete shadow governments and opposition going off on each other in the middle of speeches in the middle of parliamentary sessions. (The tables at the British House of Commons were designed at a width specifically to prevent drawn swords from being able to clash.) That's real partisanship, and yet they manage to pass plenty of legislation and produce healthy political discourse.
