i thought it was quite funny when he said "congress didnt pass my social security bill" and the democrats stood up and applauded.

of course shortly thereafter the republicans got thier retort via ovation.

tennis match.

and one thing that really stood out for some reason was when they panned to hillary clinton and she had the biggest smirk on her face shaking her head. fucking classic.

i didnt finish it though. got bored and popped in doom.

Some nice ideas, but no way to pay for most of it with the tax cuts he wants to make permanent. He touts saving a few billion in "non-security discretionary funding" then goes off on a tear about all these new programs he wants to fund. Somebody remind all of these clowns what a budget is supposed to be.

If he's serious about funding alternative energy initiatives, then good. But right now - much like everything else so far - it was all just a bunch of talk.

I did rather enjoy his "Addiction to Oil" confession

Confession is pointless unless it's followed by repenting. Time will tell if his confession was worth anything.

The goal of reducing oil usage (dependency from abroad) by 75% by 2026.

The biggest LOL I have ever gotten from a real life situation.

I also got a feeling that he really wants to push the privatization of health care.

IRANIAN President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad last night angrily rejected international pressure to halt his country's nuclear ambitions.

His dramatic speech to the nation came just hours after US President Bush in his State of the Union Address vowed to stop Tehran from making an atomic bomb.

It was also revealed yesterday that Iran was refusing to turn over to UN investigators a copy of a black market document it could use to build nuclear weapons.

According to a confidential UN report, the illicit document, which Iran received from an international nuclear smuggling ring, described aspects of fabricating the explosive core of a nuclear bomb.

The document is one more piece of evidence supporting concerns Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program in the guise of peaceful nuclear power research.

The leaked UN report said that Iranian experts had begun preparations for test-scale uranium enrichment, the process that produced low enriched uranium for power plants and highly enriched uranium for warheads.

China and Russia agreed on Tuesday to support reporting Iran to the UN Security Council, which had the power to impose sanctions.

President Ahmadinejad, though, insisted Iran had a right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.

"I am telling those fake superpowers that the Iranian nation became independent 27 years ago and . . . on the nuclear case it will resist until fully achieving its rights," he told a crowd of thousands of people in the Gulf port city of Bushehr.

"We insist on building atomic plants in the country to produce 20,000MW of electricity based on the attempts of our scientists and youth and based on parliament's approval.

"Our nation cannot step back because of the bullying policies of some countries in the world," he added to shouts of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" from the crowd.

A decision on whether to report Iran to the Security Council will be taken by the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna today.

Iranian officials have said Tehran will halt snap UN inspections of its nuclear facilities and resume uranium enrichment if referral to the council occurs.

He's such a fucking tool. I would love to send his daughters to Iraq to fight for his cause and see how he feels then, but as Tim said they would probably be to drunk to do any good.

LOL, I guess he downloaded a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook...

As far as the State of the Union, I loved the idea of doubling federal funding into physics and nanotech RND.

I'm continued to be disappointed on his position on embryonic research, because of my position on stem cell research (although we are still making headway with adult stemcells).

I like the alternative fuel initiative, but we need to be more aggressive with it.

Now, let's see if any of this stuff actually happens. I won't hold my breath.

It was nice, kinda reminded me of a more lively democracy in other countries...but why they're not crucified for gloating about their inaction is beyond me...maybe you won't find it so funny when the money you were putting into it each month fails to materialize. That's fucking hilarious.

The article TypeH posted on Iran is beyond scary...their underdeveloped understanding of a nuclear weapon's explosive core was probably one, if not the one single most invaluable things we had giving us the option of time. If they know how to develop one of those now, it's moved the time table for a nuclear Iran up by at least 5 years. Bush was clear that we won't be attacking Iran to spread democracy, however preventing a nuclear holocaust is another reason entirely.

First half was off the hook. The philosophical comments on liberty were great. Calling out nation states that oppress their own people. A hint of Jefferson and Madison.

The second half sucked. It was standard procedure with how he wants to move forward with his agenda, that was a bunch of nonsense. Boring.

Hillary sat back with her usual smirks, shaking her head.
