This is the exact wording in an add I just heard on the radio for a Border Patrol recruitment add.

Chasing down Mexicans trying to float across the Rio Grande on mattresses=Thwarting international terrorist plots.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for securing our borders. In spite of my empathy for those who are trying to escape a corrupt system to live better lives, illegal immigration is completely FUCKING anyone in our country who's a legal citizen. If you want to come here it should be in a legal way. But trying to sell working for the Border Patrol as battling on the front lines of the "War on Terror" is laughable. And I'm 100% certain that people will buy into it.

I think there argument is, the border is virtually unprotected for many many miles and that leaves an open road for terrorist to come in.

That and the fact that the number of detainees caught crossing the border, not of Mexican or other Latin/South American nationality, is seeing an increase troubling levels. However, it apparetly only takes 19.

Well said - but doesn't the fact that people will buy it make it something less than laughable?

Further, doesn't the fact that it only takes 19 make it a reasonable issue to be concerned about?

assuming AQ management are not complete morons it would be reasonable to assume that should they wish to get people into the US undetected that they'd try to use whatever route they discovered to be least likely to result in detection.

Considering the numbers of people crossing the southern border without hinderance it would not be a stretch to think they'd try that route - or the Canadian border either.

Short version.... you comment doesn't refute the notion that stricter enforcement of the southern border would be a good thing

but the terror big-wigs think canada. almost all suspected cells are believed to be in NY, NJ Mass. and detroit. It's just a matter of distance, not to mention that canada welcomes a ton of n. africans and arabs.

the S. definitely needs a fence. dont care how much it costs. illegal immigration will be more detremental to the US in 50 yrs than al qaeda could ever hope to be.

Nor did I mean that you meant we should refrain from policing the South. I was simply saying that we need to do it without regard to the fact the the North is a completely distinct and porous border.

However, your additional facts certainly add a lot to the discussion.

Each border presents unique problems. As I understand it, illegals caught crossing the southern border are quite quick to point out non-latins. On the North... we don't have that kind of relationship with the lack of vast numbers of illegals streaming south. So, while there is better policing on the North the likelihood of A turning in B is much less.
