Texas Governor: Perry 35%, Friedman 21%

Story:

Incumbent Rick Perry could earn a full term in the Lone Star State’s gubernatorial election, according to the latest poll by SurveyUSA. 35 per cent of respondents in Texas would vote for the Republican.

Independent candidate Kinky Friedman is second with 21 per cent, followed by Democrat Chris Bell with 20 per cent, and Carole Keeton Strayhorn with 19 per cent.

Perry took office after George W. Bush resigned on Dec. 21, 2000, and was later elected to a four-year term in November 2002, defeating Democrat Tony Sanchez with 58 per cent of the vote. Bell served in the United States House of Representatives from 2003 to 2005.

On Jun. 22, the two independent candidates were allowed to be on the ballot after the signatures they collected were certified. Strayhorn is Texas’ state comptroller, and Friedman is a musician and author.

The next gubernatorial election in the Lone Star State is scheduled for Nov. 7. Since 1874, Texas has had four Republican and 29 Democratic heads of government.

I haven't heard enough to judge yet. His '5 Generals' plan for controlling immigration was hilarious and inventive, but completely unrealistic.

Even if Kinky is elected does anyone actually think that a republican controlled legislature is going to agree with him on ANYTHING? He won't be able to do shit. Not to mention the fact that TX's governor doesn't hold a whole lot of power anyway, the office's power is broken up into a plural executive structure. ANYWAYS, GO KINKY
