The Beginning of the End for the War on Drugs will be in Nevada.

I strongly urge everyone to donate something to the Nevada ballot initiative campaign to regulate the legal manufacture, sale and use of marijuana for adults 21 and older. Volunteer, donate money, spread the word, etc.

If they win, we all win. Nevada will be the first state in the country to pass laws allowing the legal cultivation, sale and use of marijuana. This will be the biggest shattering blow to the War on Drugs ever and its spirit will spread like wildfire throughout the rest of the nation.

I don't have enough faith in the American public to allow them to give the government the keys to turning them into regulated junkies. Disapproved.

Even if there was a remote possibility of that happening, you think casinos, hotels, prostitutes, and marijuana shops couldn't scrounge up enough tax revenue for highways in a state where 80% of the population lives in Las Vegas?

In any case, your point is irrelevant.

No, the point is very relevant. Why don't you go research on how the federal gov't got Louisiana to raise their minimum drinking age?

They have been trying to strong arm Nevada for years already. When the state leaders there passed laws to block Nuclear waste transports passing thru their state essentially shutting down the Yukka Mountain program the Feds started cutting back federal funding. Ever since there has been an ongoing pissing match between Nevada and the Federal government and I almost suspect that Nevada is pushing thru this weed policy just to fuck with the feds. Last year the Federal govt, re-worked the railroad commission guidelines to debunk the states toxic waste transport laws and putting the yukka Mountain thing back on track. Seems like this is Nevada's response to the Feds dumping the nations toxic waste in their backyard.

State laws do not change federal laws. I doubt highly that people who sell it won't have fed busting in their doors.

actually.. they were doing fine with the revenue off the lowered drinking age. the real drinking age was 21, but you could drink at private clubs at 18. Some of the bars/clubs (not all) then applied for the new permits to be a private club so they could serve the 18 year olds.

It was only when Edwin Edwards and his crooked family raking in millions of dollars in bribes and payoff money from the casinos (to get them up and running) did the total age go to 21. they wouldn't have been able to do 24hr drinking and wouldn't have been able to have gambling w/o raising it.

so, lousy-anna would probably still have the 18+ in private clubs if gambling wasn't there.

This is true, but the feds in the current "war on drugs" depend heavily on local law enforcement. When the DEA wants to bust someone in Dallas, they borow office space at the DPD to investigate, they rely on city and county cops for manpower during the raids, as well as general intelegance on the locals, and when they are busted they go to a city/county jail untill trial.

If the state refuses to see it as a crime the DEA will not be able to use state resources (police, offices, vehicles, phones, computers, jails) to bust the people and will have to fully fund and staff their own operations.....which will take a hell of a lot more cash and manpower than the feds are used to spending on this type of thing. Once someone is busted they will no longer be prosicuted in state courts, they will have to get in line for federal courts that are already HUGELY backloged (3+ years in Sherman's federal court here in Texas) and it will clog the federal courts in Nevada making real crimes much harder to get before a judge.

So while the state legalizing it will not keep people from getting busted it will throw up some real road blocks making it much mroe difficult for the DEA to enforce the laws all on their own.
