Novak: Rove was a source in Plamegate

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- White House political adviser Karl Rove was one of Robert Novak's sources for the 2003 disclosure of a CIA operative's identity, the syndicated columnist wrote Tuesday.
Novak said Rove confirmed information from another source, whose identity Novak is still keeping under wraps.
But he said special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald knows the source's identity, and Novak said he does not think that person will be charged with unmasking now-former CIA agent Valerie Plame.
He also wrote that prosecutors have told him his role in the investigation is over.

I believe I heard that Rove got her identity as a CIA operative from a "Who's Who" type book and then called the press director of the CIA who confirmed her identity - - sounded very odd but that's what I thought I heard - - anyway - - he's apparently disclosing the identity of that party shortly as he's been released from the case, Fitzpatrick is wrapping it up and the duty to keep his mouth shut is ending.

I said "Rove" and meant Novak

His new column confirms what he hinted at in a previous one: that although he had been told that Mr. Wilson’s wife was a C.I.A. officer, he learned her name from reading the former ambassador’s entry in Who’s Who in America.

Neither Harlow nor Rove then were the source - rather Joe Wilson published her identity

it seems GW distanced himself unncessarily because he's a reactionary idiot not because he (or his adminstration) did something to slander Plame or Wilson - the wrong doing is from Wilson for publishing her identity and writing an OP/Ed which he's since distanced himself for no greater purpose than to sell his fucking book

What’s clear now is that Bob Novak wondered why in the world Joe Wilson was selected by the CIA for a highly sensitive investigative mission to Niger. Through his reporting, Novak learned the answer: Wilson’s wife, who worked at the CIA, suggested him for that assignment.

Novak asked CIA spokesman Bill Harlow for confirmation. Harlow confirmed the information and did not suggest to Novak that revealing her name might put her in danger. Novak also took the same information to Karl Rove who did not lie and tell Novak it was untrue or pretend he knew nothing about it.

Only one scandal has been revealed: the extent to which Joe Wilson, with the help of The Nation’s David Corn and many others in the media, have attempted to bring down Karl Rove and an administration they opposed.
