I wouldn't use high school policy teams as a standard for legitimate research in the real world. When judges have to make their decision on which side causes a nuclear war that kills fewer people you've checked reality in at the door.

But the source has to be credible for us to accept their findings. Am I supposed to blindly trust Sierra Club that they tallied the votes accurately or even that their definition of 'environmentally friendly' is the same as mine? Did they list the bills that were voted against at any point so that others can A)verify the votes and B)see if the bills are even about the environment? There has to be transparency to their process, one that I don't see from what you have posted so far. If the Sierra Club lists the bills that they sourced and the votes cast are accurate, then I'll believe them. But they don't have the credibility in my eyes to simply accept their announcement at face value.
