Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said recent remarks by the Pope on Islam were in line with what he called a "crusade" against Muslims.

Indeed, the Pope makes comments; a Danish newspaper prints cartoons; etc and the result is the burning of the Pope in effige and riots etc.

The degree to which offense is taken (and the actions undertaken) is absurd.

Well it just goes to show how stuck in archaic thinking these governments and its people are. It is scary to think that even though we have freedom of speech on a global scale (being obviously broad in my statement here), that these people still hold so much push power.

It's been a war of ideologies since the beginning, the government needs to make sure the US remains top dog in the world sphere, that is their job. Too bad they've messed the situation up from day one.

I'll go ahead and admit that I had HOPED that there was someone actually trying to "war with terror" from day one, but yeah, I see what you are saying. America as number one is what our government's primaty goal is and that is never going to be without question. The DIFFERENCE however is how we go about solidifying that stance.

It is possible to be the "understood" number one and not call so much of the world's ire down upon our heads. Our government feels for some reason (unknown to even most of them I'm sure) that shows of force or extension of numbers is the only way left to extoll this message.

There is no need for the massive that we have created for this "war".

Well looking at the history of our species, more often than not, history shows that technological advancement and the expansion of a culture is largely dependent or at least runs parallel to the amount of wars and conquered lands the top country had under its belt.

War = Money

Regardless if it's a religious war, ideological war, war for territory, etc, etc, etc...

To me the whole war on Terror is BS. Who are we fighting? sure terrorist seem to come from certain areas of the middle east, but they operate world wide, it's a damn ghost the government is hunting.

I got fooled into believing that we were going to get a definition.

That answer has still yet to provide itself. Until we "namedrop" and give better outlines, we are doing just as you said: chasing ghosts.

The sad fact is that we are creating REAL ghosts while trying to fight a creature with too many ghostlike attributes.
