this was already posted before, that's probably why there is a lack of response plus there was a lot of entertaining drama in the last few days

![]() | we care but - what is to be done? They have the bomb. There is no will to take any action and no clear consensus on what that would be if the will existed. South Korea is an appeaser. China is apathetic. Russia is too. Japan is livid. It is my guess, still, that the largest reaction to this will be a nuclear Japan. Which will then perhaps convince China that something should be done. |

I can. The will to do them does not exist. We can blockade (quarrantine) NK ports nd interdict ships bound to and from those ports to search the cargo... that, however, would be an act of war and could prvoke a response that we don't want. Economic sanctions are going to not be very useful. KJI is willing to starve his people to build guns. We may slow the exportation of counterfeit dollars and heroin and opium but that is still not going to be a huge factor. The Chinese don't want us toppling the regime as this would lead to lots of refugees coming across the border and adevil they don't know. The South is afraid of any act that may be considered aggressiv because Seoul is on the border and would be quickly destroy by NK artillary and verrun by their troops. The Koreans (North and South) as well as the Chinese hate the Japanese with a passion. And I mean passion. The Rape of Nanking is alive in many a memory. That Japan is the most threatened by these tests probably makes them all more amused than concerned. However, should Japan militarize and acquie a nuclear arsenal then they may be willing to put Kim Jong-il under their thumb. Until then.... I see little choice but to accept the fact that there is no political will to take any action ... that will only occur after NK uses the bomb agressively or one of its clients (Iran) does so. "Preemption" will not happen. so - what do you think we should do? | |
