![]() | Before the bang http://www.discover.com/issues/feb-04/cover/ Cosmologists Paul Steinhardt and Neil Turok have a radical idea that could wipe away these mysteries. They theorize that the cosmos was never compacted into a single point and did not spring forth in a violent instant. Instead, the universe as we know it is a small cross section of a much grander universe whose true magnitude is hidden in dimensions we cannot perceive. What we think of as the Big Bang, they contend, was the result of a collision between our three-dimensional world and another three-dimensional world less than the width of a proton away from ours—right next to us, and yet displaced in a way that renders it invisible. Moreover, they say the Big Bang is just the latest in a cycle of cosmic collisions stretching infinitely into the past and into the future. Each collision creates the universe anew. The 13.7-billion-year history of our cosmos is just a moment in this endless expanse of time.

How'd those universes get there to collide? ![]() underneath it all is information and intelligence which suggests intent - which makes much more sense than the notion that life the universe and everything is no more than a product of lots of fortuitous random events eventually culminating in you xodiac

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It doesn't suggest anything to me. There's a lot in this universe we don't understand; the difference is that you're willing to believe an imaginary being is playing us all like marionettes, but I don't. Of course I'd be willing to change that view if you accept my trade offer.

"Intent" is not even a scientific term, it's more of a psycho-philosophical term used used in the sense you're describing.

All we can do is speculate and try to comprehend what is going on with what little we see and understand at this point in time. I do agree with the notion that some gaseous vertebrate is out there to get me and make my life hell if I don't believe in it, is rather silly.

How exactly does a gaseous entity have a spine, Hernando?

I think, therefore I am. Since I don't believe in the rest of you, you don't really exist. How about them apples? - Sir Isaac Newton
