While I support an immediate withdrawl, the idea of phasing it out is to allow our troops to move out of an area, and let the Iraqis move in, before we withdraw from the next to make sure the Iraqis are not swamped by having to take control of everything at once.

and since when can the iraqis control any area. they're almost all belonging to one fanatical sect or another. either roll out completely, or increase our amount of troops to somewhere around 300-500k and whoop ass.

it makes a lot of sense actually. overwhelming force to shut down the insurgency to a controllable level, or just get all of our troops out and leave. what phased withdrawl should really be called is tactical surrender because each area we leave will just get over-run again.. so if we're gonna do that why not just leave all together or put in a significant number of troops and get some shit done.

exactly.. a tactical geographical step by step surrender that would ultimately fail anyway. it would be like us just giving up one city at a time. what a fucking waste.. if we're gonna bail out i say let's just get the fuck out completely. if we did that we could just say, 6 months on the dot.. we're all gone. Saving face and saving grace fall far from this description. The U.S. "doesn't lose" wars, we just opt out of "combat". In this case, slow and steady is for the cameras and to seem strong in the face of "terrorism". Camera ops and the ability to say we did what we could is what is the intent of it all. Maybe some guys/gals get saved along the way, but what we are really saving is the pride of America.

Pride got us 1/3rd in and is leading us 4/4ths out.
