![]() | So I'm thinking of majoring in ecomics.
And I suck at math. I'm extremely interested in the political and social side rather than the business side of it. Any ideas on what I could do other than just study on my own? I could take a lot of continuing ed. courses on the subject but if I'm going to go to school I might as well get something out of it.

You could look into political economy or regional/urban planning, but really your best bet would be to major in economics, deal with the math, and minor in political science or a related field.

If you suck at math and want to work in economics - like Adam said - deal with the math. Further, if you're interesting in public sector work you may wish to also look into the field of public adminstration. Not sure if an undergrad degree is offered in it around here but many schools offer MAPA degrees (Master of Public Adminsitration). If it isn't offered in undergrad and it is a path you may wish to pursue all the more reason to be serious about poli/sci as an undergrad degree.

I have a BA in economics with a minor in Poly Sci. and I understand your concern about math but i was absolutely terrible at math and I had no problems. The math in Economics is all related to economic concepts so you have something to link it to real world issues. I only took two genuine math courses in school and I barely passed those but I got A's in my econ. courses. Personally I thought that econ and poly sci went hand in hand. No one impacts the economy more than the federal gov't so understanding poly sci helped me understand econ. so i would definitely recommend studying both. The one thing that I would caution you about is that with Econ as a major you really do not learn a skill that translates to a definitive real world career. I mean that there are engineering majors who become engineers and accounting majors who become accountants but there is little call for a true "economist." So if you are like me you will graduate and go "what the hell do I do with this?" In truth you can do many things with an econ degree but if you really wanna specialize in a field and there is a major for that career then I would opt for that. The good news however is that most employers just want that piece of paper that proves you can you study and work hard for four (or five or six....) years. At the end of the day you have to study what interests you. I loved economics and I was good at it so that is what I majored in. You could study on your own but why not spend time learning from great minds and make it your major? |

Like I said, i really like the political side of it. Id LOVE to major in sociology too but i could do absolutly nothing with a BA in sociology. Im thinking, major in econ, minor is business, complete my computer science associates, continue with my IT certifications and then.... something. Lol. As of now, all of my schooling is IT related. That is pretty much the only thing that im extrememly good at as of now, but I'd really like to broaden my horizons. If I could make money just learning various subjects for the rest of my life I would be completly content.

I'm sure the world of internet comic books is expanding quickly, you should get in while you can.

Interesting word choice "useful" ![]() Yeah, its a pretty focused field and would seem a more appropriate field for a graduate level.
