i don't find that specific policy unreasonable. i do however feel that iran is entitled to have nuclear power for peaceful purposes.

did you watch the 60 minute interview with iran's president? he is hardly a lunatic. the man is very well educated. as i recall he has masters in physics.

Did you also see that documentary about the A.Q. Khan black market for nuclear weapons? If you haven't, I suggest you do. Iran wasn't hiding their pursuit in nuclear technology for 18 years just for peaceful purposes. Not only that, but the centrifuge designs they are using and the enrichment process are both geared for making nukes, not energy.

And just for arguement's sake, let's say they do only want to use the nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Do you really want a regime to have access to nuclear material who has a history of financing terror groups, giving money to families of people who blow themselves up, calling for Israel to be wiped off the map, and is actively funding the insurgency in Iraq? What happens when the real leader of their country, the Grand Puma or whatever his name is, decides it's time for worldwide Jihad because Allah told him so? Iran IS a theocracy. People think Bush is a religious fanatic, he's got nothing on these nuts.

You know, anyone that denies any other human that feels inferior to another won't do pretty much ANYTHING to level the playing fields probably needs to assess theirself better.

The US has nukes. This means that EVERYBODY on the international stage, INCLUDING the friends of the US, wants to "leve up". No one wants to be in a position, such as many were following WWII, where America could just say:

"Yeah, and at the end of the day we've got the bomb and you don't, we WOULD win a war, so pipe down and shut up." Because regardless of whether America would do so (I don't think they ever did, at least publicly ) the only way "the others" will see it is that it COULD happen.

People don't want energy first, they want weapons. After they've got weapons it is infinitely safer for them to build energy because then everyone is on the MAD train (or at least, on such a one sided equation, "partially" desdtroyed vs "annihlated"). And any leader that claims they won't take science as far as they can to pursue the security of the people they represent is an abject fucking retard (hi hi GWB how is that stem cell research going?)
