| Gates says TV is doomed, Internet where it's at http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/01...-where-its-at/ Speaking to business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Bill Gates looked deep into his crystal ball and prognosticated that in 5 years, TV will be a lame duck and watching video on the internet will be all the rage. Way to go out on a limb Bill. "Certain things like elections or the Olympics really point out how TV is terrible. You have to wait for the guy to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and want to go back and see it," he said. A little late to the dance, Billy? Tivo killed appointment viewing, putting TV on your terms. What wider adoption of internet distributed video will bring and what the heads of major networks and news organizations should be up nights worrying about is democratization of content creation. More and more we're finding great entertainment in low-buck, short format indie video and, in five years, the upper echelon of 15-24 year olds who are currently rocking the funny on sites like YouTube will be a force to reckon with, possibly even taking notches out of networks like Fox and NBC. What's stopping this all from happening immediately? Two things, monetization of content and a simple and ubiquitous TV/internet convergence device. For certain, any company who manages to solve either of those problems and catch the wave of public acceptance is headed for a big payday. |

| You can do that now with a sprint aircard and a carputer. It's affordable now, just not widely accepted. Soon though, soooooon.

It's pretty obvious that in the near future computers and television will become the same unit. Not to say that everyone will get rid of their televisions, just that newer TVs will integrate more computer-like features, mainly streamlining content that the user can watch when and where they like. I think Gates is right, but anyone can see that we are headed in that direction. As was mentioned, Tivo, OnDemand, new online services for downloading movies and games, that damn iphone, hell even the now current video game systems are showing what integration you can expect in the future.

| http://www.xenarc.com/product/cp1000.html xenarc in dash single din carputer with two pcmcia ports for wireless or gprs somewhere around a grand. I think that particular model has been discontinued and replaced by another one without the built in flip up lcd and no pcmcia ports. I'm sure you can still pick it up somewhere though. If you dont wanna spend a grand, just build a miniITX computer and mount it in your trunk and wire it to an lcd in the cab somewhere. http://sewelldirect.com/GPRS-GSM-Wir...FRtdSgodrnjPNg pcmcia gprs/gsm card for use with multiple providers 149.99

Thats one of the best full customs that I've seen. And keith, if you have a bluetooth or wifi enabled cell phone you can pay to get the unlimited internet and connect via your phone's network and not need an aircard
