lol @ "Let us be humble but confident in the spontaneous evolution of human society. Let us trust its rationality and not try to slow it down or divert it in any direction". in other words, lets not thwart the impending shit-storm being fueled by neo-liberal, corporate greed, because we should be able to make money by any means necessary. he'd make a happy texan.

haha - indeed - the sky is falling lets let the UN decide how much energy we can use ![]() claydoh - what percentage of the current increase in carbon in the atmosphere are a result of human activity? What decline in carbon levels can we expect if we cease all carbon emmissions? What impact will that have on the climate? How quickly? |

here's my take Its real. But, what the real impact is and what our contribution to it is is not well understood. Further, and maybe more importanly, what changes we can make to impact climate change and to what degreee they'll be effective is not well understood. We can calculate the cost of doing X Y or Z in economic terms... less energy, lost production etc etc ... BUT we don't know what that cost buys us. This is no excuse to do nothing... it is rather meant to point out that the sky is falling "impending shit storm" crowd need to chill and discuss what we can do without wrecking the world economy and giving up political power to a bunch of climate change nazis. We can measure the cost - we need to know what it'll buy us... until then the hysteria is just fucking annoying Quote:
seems to believe that global warming will be the Al Gore 20' sea level rise... the UN Report on global warming said something like 15 inches in next 100 years iirc that's exactly the hysteria that is annoying anyway - the arguments are simplifistic (there are large matters of degree/scale - {what degree of change in climate what cost in $$} that go unaddressed) but interesting... in essence I agree,... but the issue again is how much climate change, what can we do about it, at what cost? what does "start acting" mean? and wtf - stop debating? You mean you have all the answers? How much will the temp rise in next 100 years? How much of that did humans cause through carbon emmissions? What can we do to prevent climate change?

did you even watch the fucking link? and for the record - you're an asshole. i don't have to defend what i do as a consumer to YOU. i take a lot of pride in the fact that i make my home as energy effecient as i possibly can, and that i ride a bicycle around town insted of driving my car about 70% of the time, to answer your carbon emmissions question. you're a prime example of people who sit around blowing hot air talking shit on a messageboard instead of encouraging positive change. |

this reply is jumbled because you kept adding to your original comment so forgive the disorganization Quote:
Yeah - I watched the fucking link and commented on it. I'm in general agreement with his arguments. You made a statement that was preaching and vacuous - I asked you to defend it - I asked you what "do something" means. I asked you why we should stop debating this issue. You chose to insult me instead. I guess you really meant there is no need to debate the issue. Still, you refuse to share your vast resource of knowledge that would help the rest of us. I for one am greatly disappointed. Quote:
I asked what "do something" means. For you - ride a bike. Well, I drive as little as I can - I fucking hate driving. I use as much renewable enrgy as I can. I recycle as much as possible etc etc. Of course we must do these things. But the will not resolve the problem. So, does "do something" mean exercise some personal responsibility in energy choices? Is that what you meant? Quote:
So, what does, "do something" mean? Last edited by PETA; 06-14-07 at 01:31 PM.

only on ddm will you get flamed for being environmentally conscious. you fucking loser! you're stupid - you always recycle, you ride a bike, you replace all the bulbs in your house with compact flouro, you plant trees, your monthly energy bills are less than $200 in the heat of the summer for your 1,500 sq house, you use the water-saving feature on your washer and limit consumption considerably 100% of the time....you're a fucking FREAK for truly making an effort! let's all point at luxe and laugh children. ![]() do you realize how super gay that is xian. DO YOU HONESTLY GET IT. no, you don't. |

lol - chauvenistic? There is nothing in my comments that lends credibility to that charge. You made a platitudiness comment and I pushed you to explain it. You got pissed. Lighten up.

I didn't criticize you for being environmentally concious - I didn't criticize you at all in fact. I asked for clarification of what you meant. You took it as a personal affront. go reread my comments t-h-s and cool off.
