Anyone read the Front Page today about the State Gov paying us $3500 for our old cars

I read the front page on the way out this morning and it said something along the lines of the Tx State Dpt or gov will pay us or anyone who has a car that is pre 1996 to be taken off the road. Obviously there are conditions like it must be running but they primarily want to make a contribition regarding Emmsions/dirty air etc

Can anyone shed any light on ths as i didnt have to much time to comprehend it? We have a 3rd car that is 1995 and just parked outside but i suppose i will be taking it in for the cash if it all works out..Sounds almost like those tv ads hunk of junk etc.But its the Tx gov who will pay us the consumer instead..

3k for cars WITH stipulations on that... 3500 for cars if you're getting a hybrid

and yes, i read it and think it's a badass idea

gotta read that fine print though... they don't just hand you 3k. they give you a voucher to be used to buy a new car which must be within a certain amount of time. the story listed all the requirements.

it's not a cash offer.

thanks for the link. I knew it was to good to be true.,...looks like somebody high up got a "special interests deal" for this to work ie...working with new car dealers to push sales ther maybe? Sneaky sneaky

it's not sneaky... did you really expect them just to give everyone cash? they clearly state in the story that it's for a voucher, not cash.

the rules prevent people taking non-working cars there and discourages people from stealing cars. pretty standard stuff.

No conspiracy but why or what do you think the speacial motive that is behind this? Who gets to profit from this ? The big dealers etc just like the hunk of junk ads for so long we had to endure, just bring it in and we give you 3 grand for it...rememeber that? whats the difference?

this 3k voucher deal they are doing is not a scam, it's not sneaky.. it's a GOOD thing but only if you are looking to purchase a new car. if you're not then it doesn't pertain to you.

lol okay... first off... nobody is making you trade your car in.

funny you mention this windfall the 'bad guys' are going to get since most of them had no idea the program had been in place at a smaller extent for the past 6 years anyway.

you are confusing dealer incentives with a govt credit.

sure if people do this dealers, banks, and insurance companies would benefit. they would benefit regardless since at some point someone with a 10 year old vehicle would get something new anyway.

so as a consumer why not accept a little extra credit for speeding up the process of getting older less stringent on air pollution cars and trucks off the road??

one way or another you will still pay insurance, you will still change the oil and other maintanence no matter what age your car is.

regarding the first part of your response. It has nothing to do those 2 shows.

Secondly i got excited for nothing as its a "wolf in sheeps clothing" type offer. I just got a new car 2 months back. So it wont help me nonetheless. Its not a scam but honestly not any different from a Dodge,Toyota etc car dealer!

Except now my pos civic, which has no dash after being broken into 3 times, will be worth 3 grand (unless I'm missing a stipulation). And I didn't even have to take it to Kia. Hopefully carmax or some other decent used car lots will be able to honor these vouchers.
