![]() | Real ID Ready or not?
Opinion? Rite, fair, effective,or otherwise? REAL ID Final Rule The Department of Homeland Security has issued a final rule to establish minimum standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards in accordance with the REAL ID Act of 2005. These regulations set standards for states to meet the requirements of the REAL ID Act, including: * information and security features that must be incorporated into each card; * proof of identity and U.S. citizenship or legal status of an applicant; * verification of the source documents provided by an applicant; and * security standards for the offices that issue licenses and identification cards. This final rule also provides a process for States to seek an additional extension of the compliance deadline to May 11, 2011, by demonstrating material compliance with the core requirements of the Act and this rule. Minimum Standards for Drivers Licenses and Identification Cards Acceptable by Federal Agencies for Official Purposes: Final Rule * Final Rule, Part 1 (PDF, 120 pages - 4.2 MB)http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/R...2007-01-11.pdf * Final Rule, Part 2 (PDF, 164 pages – 5.6 http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/R...2007-01-11.pdf Last edited by garagebadbwoy; 01-11-08 at 05:18 PM. It's Big Brother!! They come with microchips that can read your wants, desires, and dislikes through your brainwaves and the Pentagon is collecting that information and then selling it to companies like Ron Co. so they can market useless gizmos and gadgets more effectively.

Me personally, I hate the idea. However... I had this revelation the other day. Maybe it is based on fear, maybe it is based on reality, or both. I don't think the American public will go for it until there is a mushroom cloud over a major city. After that, we will be asking ourselves why we never did it in the first place. If that happens, we will give our rights up on a silver platter. Why? Because that will be one of our only defenses against a threat which has no boundaries or borders to retaliate against, thus no danger of mutual destruction to them. It's the new threat of our generation. The technology in mass destruction that mankind faces today is unbelievable, and there will always be some nutjob who wants to use it to kill people. On another note, the USA fights our enemies with one hand tied behind our backs. If we wanted to, we could wipe out the population of Al Qaeda, Iran, and whoever else wants to fuck with us in probably 30 minutes' time. We don't because we are halfway civilized. Don't forget that and don't forget who your enemies are and what they are capable of. A nuclear weapon could be the size of a suitcase. So the question is, do we want old technology protecting us because there is potential for abuse when none has been proved? Do we really want people to manipulate our social security numbers and stealing our ID's, credit cards, and lives because our technology is behind the times? The sad fact is, security in this day and age does trump certain freedoms because of technology. |

Personally I feel its just another way for the federal government to number the population, and in so doing control it even more. What if one affords all information needed for this REAL ID and the authorities determine it to be insufficient or not what "their records indicate'? That could become a REAL issue.

I thought Texas' ID program already was up to REAL ID's standards, and that it was designed to bring some states' programs up to date with the rest of us. So Joe Blow from Al Qaeda couldn't get a fake ID with nothing but a forged document that looked something kind of resembling a birth certificate. No verichip, no national ID card, no alien anal probes...that I'm aware of.
