Barack Obama Early Voting Party, Saturday 23 Feb Buck N Loons in Arlington, TX

For those of you who didn't know, I'm a Precinct Captain for Tarrant County Precinct 2267. I will be hosting an early voting get together at Buck N'Loons Cafe (2517 S. Cooper Street, Arlington TX) on Saturday from 12PM until 2PM for people in the area who are Barack supporters or undecided to get together, have some lunch, get to know each other, and then to all go together to early vote afterwards. I wanted to extend the invitation for each and every one of you (and your friends) to come out and meet fellow Barack Obama supports - please pass this information on to anybody that you think may be interested!

Is this lunch free? Who voted you Precinct Captain? I sure didn't.

Its cool that you are trying to get people to vote, but I gotta bust your chops a little.

Being a Precinct Captain isn't something that you get voted into, it's something you volunteer for :^) As a matter of fact, if you're interested in helping out with the Obama campaign, there's definitely a place for you - one of the beautiful things about a movement built from the bottom up is that there is always room to empower motivated and interested people who want to help! :^)

The lunch isn't free at this location - I picked it because they've been friendly for other Obama events and I thought it would be nice to support local business rather than a chain. It's more about getting people together to meet and greet and to go early vote than free food, though there are other events in the area on Saturday that will be providing free food if you're interested in a free lunch - see, there really *is* such a thing as a free lunch :^)

If you go to http://tx.barackobama.com/VoteEarlyForChange and type in your zipcode, I'm sure that you'll find plenty of events in your area :^)

isn't a precinct captain hosting a party for a specific candidate a little bit removed from impartial?

Yes. That's the point :^) I'm an advocate, not an election judge...

I'm sure that Hillary, McCain, and Huckabee are all accepting volunteers as well and if you support them, I'm sure that they would be happy to have your help.

The purpose of my Early Voting party today (along with all the others going on across the country - (http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/search_simple) is for people in the area who support Barack Obama to come together and meet each other and for people who are undecided to meet some supporters and see why we think he's the best person to lead this country. Afterwards, those of us who are interested are going to go vote early.

What I think is special and unique to Obama's campaign (and why I personally connect to it) is that I believe that his life experiences from being a community organizer, to fighting for civil rights as an attorney, to being a senator committed to fighting corruption in government (and many other important issues - see http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2.../807/36/458633) qualify him to lead this country in a way that none of the other candidates are. I can't speak for anybody else but I've not seen anything like the motivation and hope he inspires in people before, though people that were around to see JFK say that Obama reminds them of him. Democrats have talked for years and years about turning out the young voters but it seems that Obama really has the momentum to make it happen this time!

I can only speak anecdotally but the Clinton Gore ticket in 1992, my second Presidential election, had mnost of my friends very excited and energized and we voted. Now, iirc, the biggest factor for Clinton wasn't the youth vote but that sucking sound that split the votes on the right between Bush and Perot..
