![]() | 'Abortion' Search Block
whole story from NPR here = http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=89486048 So... on the Popline website (http://db.jhuccp.org/ics-wpd/popweb/ - project of John Hopkins University)... the term "abortion" was blocked for a small time. The reason is because the search would turn up articles for an abortion advocacy magazine named "A". The site is funded federaly by the U.S. Agency for International Development. According to the article, they cannot by law support abortion activities.... only abortion statistics or research. :::This agency was not responsable for removing the term::: After some bitching, people got the term put back into the search tool. My question is, if they cannot support it.... and they provide funding for a site that allows it - is that proper? Technicaly...yea, it probably is morally (yes, according to MY morals).... no, i dont think so also.. why doesn't the site just remove the link to these pages from the search? |

but here is another good read on the same topic.... 'A Christian group in Britain is suing Google over the search engine's alleged refusal to place an ad related to abortion." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,348869,00.html |

"Ipas' executive director, Anu Kumar, says she knew about the block but didn't know it had anything to do with Ipas. "We are disappointed," Kumar says. "We know that 40 million abortions take place every year and nearly 20 million of them are unsafe. Women are literally dying while we're dithering about these words." Of the 20 million that are "unsafe", how many women died during or as a result of the abortion? Here is a statistic I found: In 1998 and 1999 (the most recent years for which data are available), 14 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortion. Ten of these deaths occurred in 1998 and four occurred in 1999; no deaths were associated with known illegal abortion. from http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5212a1.htm And I have to mention the various websites that can be found online by searching for "abortion" that seem to be friendly and inviting towards scared women, but are actually pro-life sites.. Example: http://www.abortionfacts.com Here is a link to a page of their site entitled "How to teach the pro-life story". It makes me want to vomit..http://www.abortionfacts.com/online_...hem_both_3.asp I personally support NARAL http://www.naral.org/

boy you are out of the loop hu? (not that we have ever discussed this before, but...) abortion stance is not a religious one, but a scientific one.... it is only propagated by religious factions the reason why people on this side of the argument wont "leave everyone else alone" is because we are trying to save the life of a person who can't defend for it themself | |
