Looks like the Bush presidential library wont be in Dallas after all. This is the first time in US history that a proposed venue/location for a presidential library has said no to the request.

SMU Bush Presidential Library Rejection, passed 844-20

This rejection passed on Wednesday morning, 30-April-08, at the quadrennial General Conference of the United Methodist Church that is still meeting in Fort Worth, Texas.
This body is the highest authority of the denomination and cannot be over-ruled by any other body within the denomination.

Here's a question that always bugged me tho....

Why isn't UTD actually in Dallas? I can't think of any other major city whose state school is outside of city limits.

UPDATE: The General Conference of the United Methodist Church did receive a petition asking it to block SMU’s decision to lease land for the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Center. Its decision was only to refer it to the South Central Jurisdictional Conference. In no way did it reject the decision already made by the South Central Jurisdiction’s Mission Council. The action was merely procedural because the General Conference said the decision belonged at the Jurisdictional level. The overwhelming nature of the vote was due to the fact that it, along with 11 other petitions, was on a consent calendar of things approved overwhelmingly in committees that recommended referrals.

I'll flame SMU consistently if you want and not just for their frats. Every school is full of douchehole frat kids. I mean yeh sure I consistently find myself not liking any of SMU's students but it goes a bit deeper than that.

Members of SMU's faculty are doing their damned best to get creationism in Texas public school books. The Observer had an article about it recently.

First of all creationists are the probably the most annoying voice in education. Second, why would anyone at a private christian college think they have any right to suggest what should be taught in our public schools?

SMU as a whole shares a conservative agenda. I detest the presence of this school in our city b/c of that.

I mean we already have DBU and University of Dallas. We need 3 fucking private Christian schools to fuel our social environment?

whether a President is popular or not I think its flat out stupid to refuse the library. The point of it isn't the aggrandisement of the President but providing documents to researchers.
