City of Dallas considers charging a fee for non-residents who get in car wrecks

If the council agrees to the fee, it likely would range from $400 to $500 per accident. Under the proposal, the fee would be divided among all drivers involved, regardless of fault. But only nonresidents would pay the fee. It would be waived for residents, who city officials reason already paid for services through city taxes.

whether the wreck was your fault or not, you're going to pay.
take that you suburbanites!!!

What are you paying for exactly then? Those twat nozzles already don't come out and make a police report on accidents.

having to send out folks to re-direct traffic, clean up the highways, etc.

The sherriffs dept is underfunded and handle a lot of the calls that have to be answered.

Hey they have to make up the money somehow.... Dallas citizens would never allow the city to borrow money from China just for car wrecks.

that's what plano's mayor responded with. "they do this to us and we do it to them. it serves no good." on NPR, they mentioned that 7 states have already passed legislation to prohibit this sort of thing.

God that would be the LOL of the year.

Not that if dallas passes this, but if every OTHER city imposed a fine on Dallas drivers if they have accidents in their city.

This law is crap though.

That doesn't make sence because many places you pay a earnings tax not only where you live but where you work too. So really, if you worked in dallas they could be taxing you in dallas already. I don't know for sure but I have lived places where this is true. Point is the local area is getting your tax dollars some how. (what about shoping, or dining... dallas still gets some tax money. They are just being cheap asses.)

I think its kind of shitty. I don't get it. I'm not from texas, but people always seem to ask me,"why did you move here?" At first it was like people just making conversation, but people ask it so consistantly that I think people are saying you don't belong here. What's up with that? Anyway, same sort of thing... Dallas is some how special from the rest of the US? Maybe Dallas should secede.

I understand the cost involved to respond to the scene, but the idea that I would have to pay $200 just because I live in Plano and some asshole rear ends me is a bit ludicrous to me...even worse if said asshole lives in Dallas and would have his $200 waived.
