It occurs to me that John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current president. When asked what his Christian faith means to him, his answer was a one-liner. "It means I'm saved and forgiven." Great scholars have wrestled with the meaning of faith for centuries. McCain then retold a story we've all heard a hundred times about a guard in Vietnam drawing a cross in the sand.

maybe his faith in his make believe god is a personal thing to him and he doesnt want to announce what it means to him in front of a huge impersonal crowd... or maybe he just says he's a christian when in reality he isn't as dumb as he seems and he realizes that saying you're a christian gets everyone off your back and then you live your life like a rational person without having to believe in some fairytale.

Asked about his greatest moral failure, he cited his first marriage, which ended in divorce. While saying it was his greatest moral failing, he offered nothing in the way of explanation. Why not?

One man's opinion that'd I'd have to say is pretty ill-informed. He mentions a quote from McCain about looking into Putin's eyes. A very Bush-like statement, but I've watched a few clips where McCain has showed a very detailed understanding of Russian political behavior over the past decade or so. My take on it is that Obama genuinely seems to have a thirst for educating himself on the issues he'd face as president. Which is great, but being the commander and chief of the world's only superpower isn't a learn-on-the-job type of occupation. McCain is by no means a perfect candidate but he has a pretty damn good idea of what's going on in the foreign policy arena...from what I've seen so far anyways.

If he doesn't want his personal life or morals or character or personal beliefs on front street, he shouldn't run for the highest office our highly media - covered goverment has to offer. IMO.

I think it is fair to scrutinize his intergrity and his personal conduct speaks to that. None of us is perfect and neither is McCain - it was a fair question and it was fairly answered. Next.

So far, McCain discussing Russia has put him in a good light, agreed... but when caught off guard... just 'off the cuff'... he seems kinda douchey.

I think any hint of possible douchebaggery sends a lot of people who can't stand George W. (like me) running scared. We're so nervous that someone is going to be in office again that can't get shit right. I know everyone makes mistakes, but geeeeeeez!!!!

To each their own. I don't like intellectual laziness (aka douchebaggery) either, but I also can't stand silver tongued ass-hats with terrible ideas and equally terrible understanding of what's going on around them. McCain seems like a decent enough fit between Bush and Obama.

Na, bush made the original quote about seeing into his soul. But never-the-less it seems as though this author's opinion on McCain's sometimes terse statements are that he's making them like Bush did, with a generous helping of emotion, instead of using his brain/experience/whatever.
