Michell Obama's Speech

What did you guys think? I personally think she did a very good job and kept it down to earth without too much cheesiness. She spoke very fluently and made herself, and her family out to be just regular americans, that struggled just as hard as most of us, to get to where they are now. All in all I give it an 8 out of 10 as far as political speeches go. I didnt get to catch kennedy's speach though...

She's without doubt a brilliant woman. Her problem is that she's leda a privileged life (Princeton, Harvard Law) and some how manages to complain about how hard her life has been.... gimme a fucking break. Pretty much everone on the planet would love to be as oppressed and disadvantaged as you Michelle.

She'll be Obama's most important advisor - bar none. I'm not certain Hillary and Bill slept together. I'm fairly certain these two are the real deal in terms of their marriage. She'll have his ear last thing at night first thing in the morning.

The good news, as I said, is that she's brilliant. The bad news is that I'm likely to disagree with her every day and twice on Sunday.

I'd hardly call Michele Obama privileged. Her father was a blue collar worker, and she busted some serious ass to get where she is today - she graduated cum laude from Princeton, and put herself through Harvard Law School on student loans which she just recently paid off.

You make it sound like her daddy was an admiral or she married into wealth - instead of the living manifestation of the American Dream that she is.

I made it sound like most Americans never had a chance to go to Princeton and then Harvard Law (550 students per class - huge btw)*. That's privilege regardless of how hard you worked to get in.

I won't for one second dismiss her hard work. She strikes me as some one who always worked "that much harder" just to prove herself. I can respect that. You shouldn't dismiss the very narrow slice of America she's been a part of. It is fair to note how she seems to be filled with complaints even in light of how extraordinary her experience has been.

The common connotation of "living a privileged life" doesn't match up with how you're using it though, hence the disagreement with zymote. Most people think of living a privileged life as someone like Dubya; floated through life without earning their way into most of what they get. Perhaps if you rephrased to say she earned a privileged life, you two would be on the same page.

She doesn't strike me as someone who is "filled with complaints" at all, more likely she's as smart as you say and she recognizes a lot of the deficiencies in the world today. Plus she's on the campaign trail, so of course when she talks it's going to focus on what's wrong with the world and what needs to be fixed.

Being black, a woman, and poor relative to her peers in Princeton & Harvard Law in the early 80s would put her in a very, very distinct minority and she's probably dealt with more biases than you or I could imagine. When she & Barack met they were the only two blacks in the law firm. So yea, maybe she has a chip on her shoulder. You or I probably would too if we dealt with Ivy League silver-spooners for the better part of a decade.

Have you heard her "moved the bar" speach? Her complaints about having to pay back her student loans etc etc. Different people can have different reads - she comes off as complaining to me.

in a primary debate when it was pointed out to him that raising the rate decreases tax revenues he said he still wanted to raise the rate... gotta be sure to set that example that success needs to be punished

Good fucking Christ climb down will you. I already noted several times that I in no way discounted her hard work that put her in a position to get into those schools and do well. But the schools gave her the shot - they admitted her - she was given - through her hard work and the school's agreement to admit rare opportunities. Besides, have you read any of her major paper from Princeton that she's tried to hard to keep quiet. Forget the subject matter being less than flattering, her writing sucked ass.

You presume GW did nothing to get into school which is not a fair claim. You disagree with im and therefore he must have been granted admission to School's XY and Z because he "popped out of the right vagina" - how very eloquent of you
