Hillary Clinton's Speech

Okay, so I watched Hillary's speech last night, and it was great. She did a great job of calling on her supporters, and got some great zingers in at McCain.

Immediately following her speech, there was a lot of positive media coverage - even Pat Buchanan gave her a grudging nod. Then I turn on the TV today and see this bullshit media coverage saying that she didn't do enough of this or that. MSNBC's got Tucker Carlson and Joe Scarborough bitching and moaning about how Hillary's setting herself up for 2012. Conservative media ftl.

And I saw Keith Olberman actually stop himself and hand the ball off to Chris Matthews say, "I better stop before I get too psychphantic..." not sure if the too is redundant but together with psychophantic you've got the very definition of biased coverage.

Who the hell does that network think they're fooling when they offer up Olberman as an objective "news"man. He's a two-bit pundit bullshit artist that but for his own sense of self-righteousness would be better off doing a show just like John Stewart's.... oh wait, he does.

My point - these guys are not neutral - they have their horses in this race. I despise the notion of partisans being offered up to give "objective" opinions. Fuck that noise. Tell me who you support and then give me your opinion... don't try to bullshit me because I'm changing the channel (or FFing through your spiel) quickly when you do.

On the radio, I heard them saying that she didn't do enough Republican bashing. I thought she did a little bit of flaming at the start of her speech. That's the easiest way to unite a large room full of demmies behind what you're saying, just do some Republican bashing.

Yeah, I can't stand Olbermann either. He may say things that I tend to agree with, but he tries to pass himself off as a journalist which grates on me enough to negate the value of anything that might come out of his mouth.

I do like how MSNBC's put Maddow and Buchanan opposite each other - maybe that's the closest we'll get to balance these days.

And I've been watching the media coverage of Hillary's speech all fucking day, and haven't seen decent coverage of it anywhere. All they covered is a bunch of touchy feely shit, totally ignoring the real substance of the speech. Last night I expected "No way. No How. No McCain." to be the leading soundbyte for the cycle, but all I've heard is that "travelling pantsuit" bullshit.

I keep hearing the same thing, that opening night didn't have enough attack on the Republican camp, Hillary didn't attack enough, etc. I personally think I was a good move on the Dem's part. If you look at some of the division and conflict that has been going on during the campaign, it looks good for them to put up a united front... Talk about the platform and about the party itself in a happy, optimistic and united way before they focus on anything else.

Besides, I'm pretty sure we will see more attacks on the Republicans before the end.

That's the press wishing there was more blood in the water. They pulled the same shit during the primaries, when Obama was steadfastly refusing to go negative against Hillary.

I take it you didn't actually watch the actual speech then, because that's not the speech I saw. Hillary was enthusiastic about the Democratic party coming together, got some great digs in about McCain, and did a great job reaching out to her supporters. The media coverage of said speech, however, did it's best to gloss over all this and make it look like a half-hearted speech. It was not.

Next time try getting your information from the source - C-Span in this case, instead of having it force fed to you by Fox News. Make up your own mind, and don't abdicate that responsibility to a bunch of talking heads.
