The presidency and the election seems like a giant rouse to keep the american public unawares of just who dictates policy, holds power, and keeps the population from actually having any.

there's that and the fact that most politicians can't really get done what they want to get done because then you might actually have to work together to get something passed. plus there are things that need to get done that shouldnt really be the responsibility of the federal govt too. there's such a focus on the presidential election and yet most people couldn't name more than one person in their city or state govt.

you bring up a good point - local politicians have so much power in everyday policies that affect us here

I think all politicians are equally important - the president just deals with issues that affect the whole country and a congressman deals with something that affects your neighborhood
