![]() | On September 18, 2006, Pastor John Hagee — whose endorsement Sen. John McCain said he was “glad to have” — told NPR’s Terry Gross that “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.” “New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God,” Hagee said, because “there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came.” Damnit. I knew Katrina was my fault, I just knew it! Sorry New Orleans! lol Really, though, you can't live anywhere in the world that is totally devoid of risk for natural disaster.

Regardless, Wiki is pretty believable, so you can stop with the "its not a reputable source" thing that was a tired argument 4 years ago. I didn't know there was really a "Catastrophe Theory". I was only saying that because technically the area the hurricane hit - exactly - created the best conditions for the levee breaches. Since Katrina made landfall east of the city, and hurricane winds spin counter-clockwise, it created a storm surge from the Lake that wouldn't have been duplicated had the point of landfall been slightly west. So a Cat3+ hurricane making landfall at the exact point needed for these circumstances to happen is like, what, some huge ass probability right? Because how many times did it happen over the last 10 years? 100 years? 200? Yeah, the city design is a tad flawed, but you can use the same argument against a lot of major cities in America and their locations to disaster zones. Should we all build concrete shelters in the mountainsides or something?

So a personal question.... If you lived somewhere and it was destroyed by a hurricane, would you have complained it was the government's fault? And would you have gone back to the exact same spot and rebuilt??? And if your answer is yes to the latter, would you be suprised that you had to get the fuck out again? And would you be expecting the government to help out?

I think its the governments responsibility to at least have some sort of system to get people out of the city that don't have any transportation to do so. Does the entire fault of the situation lie on the government? Not really, because most people can, for the most part, take care of themselves in a situation like this. But if your entire house and everything you owned was destroyed I would hope the government and fellow citizens help you out. Not everyone is shitting Benjamins, and you can't fault everyone for that. Shit, even in house and apartment fires the Red Cross comes out to help people when they can. Everyone needs a little assistance sometimes. What I rebuild my home in New Orleans if I lived there? Hmmm. Tough question. There's a lot of hypotheticals at play in a question like that. If I was 30 and working in some random IT job or something, I would probably have no reason to even come back to the city. If I was 50 and had lived in the same neighborhood my whole life, then I might feel more attachment to the city and come back anyway. Who knows. I suppose you could ask that question to the tens of millions of people who live along any coastline. /shrug

And anyone who lives in harms way needs to take the responsibility on their own and not be suprised when it does strike......

^^ alright ms. cleo. as for the initial thread.. sometimes things are a little more complex than black and white. such as giving up on your homeland that's been your family's home for generations as well. not to mention.. the govt didn't help much after katrina anyway. |

![]() | That's Mr. to you! Fact of the matter is all geological predictions for the future show New orleans under water, as well as other areas, mostly due to Ice caps melting, therefore raising the sea levels. I knew as well as most everyone else that it was going to happen. Why should the govt. be responsible for cleaning up the mess over and over again? I would rather see tax dollars go to something that makes a little more sense! Not that I expect the govt to do anything as such. Answer your questions Queensize?
