I understand a man and his home, but why rebuild in a dangerous zone then freak out when another one comes? If you build your home in harms way, do not get upset when the government does not come to the rescue, and when it is all said and done, do not think " oh shit, I cannot believe I need to run away again". Move the fuck out of New Orleans. I cannot give pity to those who said "we will rebuild". Below sea level? Are you fuckin nuts? Are you crazy? Do you not understand reality? Maybe this next hurricane happens to avoid or dodge or go around the shores of louisiana, but you have to accept that another one will come...so move the fuck out of there and do not get upset when the government does not come to your rescue........

My point is accept the natural dangers of where you settle and call home... and once you realize it is not the most wise choice to settle at that particular spot, get the fuck out of there and do not be stubborn and rebuild, only to find yourself in the same predicament....I realize a tornado could destroy my home and if it does, i would possibly relocate, but to rebuild inside of disastrous harms way seems beyond logical to me... the place was labeled as "do not live here, it is beyond unsafe", but they insisted on rebuilding. And again, this hurricane may not be as brutal, but there will be another one in the future that will destroy.....so do not blame the government for not helping out.....

Natural disasters happen everywhere. Anything can happen. Whats the probability the wild fire burns down YOUR house, or that the hurricane destroys YOUR home. Probably slim, that's why people live there. The same logic applies to a tornado blowing away your house here. We live in tornado alley for fucks sake, but I'm sure you don't even have a shelter, right?

Are you arguing no one should live anywhere near the coastline, in the hills of California, in any earthquake zone, in any flood plain, or in tornado alley?

Uh? Perhaps a typo, but Cat 6 doesn't really exist.

Right now Gustav is only supposed to become a Cat4 and that is open water in the gulf. It is expected to make landfall as a Cat3/2 and west of New Orleans at this point. (Katrina also was a Cat3 by the time it hit New Orleans.)

Also, the levees are being updated and won't be complete until 2011.
[Even though "levee experts" and the Army Corp of Engineers suggest the levees are stronger than pre-Katrina.]

However, the city existed hundreds of years as it was before something happened. It was just a series of catastrophic, unfortunate events that lead up to everything.


By the way, I felt the original post was in a broader spectrum of things and not just focused on New Orleans.

I think you missed my point....the evacuees blamed the government for not doing its part in saving the city, then they moved back, only to be facing the same shit. I say live where ever the hell you want, but when disaster strikes, it is your fault and your fault alone because you chose to live there....in no way is it the governments fault.

And your idea of logic is to rebuild a city and spent millions if not billions of dollars only to watch it destroyed again? How many of them can really claim shock when there homes they just finished rebuilding are flooded again???
