I disagree partially. I think if you don't have a concept or knowledge of religion, its easy to be an atheist by default. If you do know about religion then I think it takes faith to reject it. If you have heard all the stories of hellfire and damnation, then it takes faith to say the majority is wrong.

I am so not kidding when I say theology and education are not correlated at all. Either proportionally or inversly proportional. Prove me wrong. Atheism is not a pursuit of enlightenment. Briliant people come from all sorts of beliefs.

It seems to me like an atheist church would be embracing the same religiosity that most atheists reject. I get not believing in the sexually repressive invisible father figure in the sky. I just don't see what purpose getting together with people on a weekly basis to hammer that into the ground would serve.

Why is that ridiculous? I know he said faith, but unless webster has the definition of atheism wrong, atheism is a disbelief in the existence of God or gods. Since neither the existence or nonexistence of a God has been verifiably proven, it takes just as much faith to believe a God doesn't exist as it does to believe one does. If you take the stance of "we just don't know yet" then you're not an atheist, at least not by definition.

you are correct that there is no proof for the nonexistence of god ... just as there is no proof for the nonexistence of reality ... just like there is no proof for the nonexistence of 72 virgins in a muslim's afterlife

all intangible by our current tools of measurement

for me it is not just the measurements that have helped in my realization that god is a fabrication of humans. it also the countless times the church has had to retract their "facts" because science completely disproved them.

well if things religions have been preaching have been disproved over and over again as more scientific discoveries are made then it is safe to assume that "God" will suffer the same fate as all of those other things

never-the-less, I do understand the argument of "no one really knows" but I'd rather base my unverifiable choice on verifiable data rather than the bible
