| Om | The Debate
It's common knowledge that I am no political genius, but here's my thoughts: Aside from all the issues discussed... and I think they pretty much evened out on a lot of the issues... although I favor Obama, but... Personally, I don't like the fact that McCain wouldn't look Obama in the eye ONCE or even speak to him directly during the entire thing. If you can't look your opponent in the eye and speak to him directly, then I don't expect you to deal with your enemies on any better terms. I know this may not be a major issue when it comes to running a country, but we've already had one monkey with a quirky laugh and smirk and no 'human aspect'... I don't want another.

| Om | What are you talking about? Aside from neither of them answering questions as they were asked... like I said... they both went on tangents and didn't give great answers to what they were asked... but Obama asked McCain questions numerous times directly, looked at him continuously, addressed him, and never got a direct response from McCain ONCE. I sway towards Obama, but I am not against being swayed to the other side if the gut feelings are there. But they aren't. McCain is a monkey. A monkey who couldn't speak directly to his opponent either in an answer or a direct question. That's not a quality of a leader.

The moderator made it clear in the first five minutes that he wanted the two to talk to EACH OTHER. He said it 10 minutes before they went live on network TV (C-Span) and he joked about it after the first question was asked. Obama spoke directly to MCCain within 10 minutes after that even addressing him by name in a question directed to him... not at the moderator referencing McCain, but to McCain. McCain NEVER responded directly to Obama, never answered his questions directly, and through the entire thing addressed the moderator and referenced Obama as a third party. I don't know what debate you were watching, but I'd like anyone to pull up a video of the two of them looking at each other in the eye and responding to each other. You may think it's a moot point, but I, like most Americans who may be voting, am not completely up to speed on all the details of all of the political issues, and a big part of my decision on who to vote for is based on their personalities, their debates, and their ability to relate to the working man who doesn't follow politics to the 'T'. If you don't recognize that, then I think you are the one with issues my friend.

| Om | You were obviously watching something else. As I said... one last time... Obama addressed McCain and asked him questions several times. McCain didn't acknowledge him or look him in the eye once.

| Not to be a repeat of what Roos just said, but were you watching the same debate I was???? Obama looked straight at McCain and called him by name. A few times.

Sigh. I see your blinders are back on. Yes, I watched the debate. They both addressed each other at different times. They both addressed the mediator at different times. They both pretty much sucked in terms of how this debate was presented. Either way, that shouldn't be an issue you are worried about when deciding who you are going to vote for.

![]() Funny that you say my 'blinders are on'. While I don't like the Republican platform for certain issues, I am not opposed to it entirely... and the same goes for the Democratic platform. However, If you saw McCain address Obama directly, I'd like to see some proof. There ya go. Give it to me and I will concede on that fact, which was the whole point of this thread. However, unless my dinner and wine distracted me, I never once saw McCain address Obama directly... and never saw him look him in the eye. Not saying it was a winning factor or losing factor, just a factor that I take in to consideration as I think a lot of politically uninformed Americans do as well. But if you take that as an issue that 'shouldn't be worried about' when human interaction is clearly a part of peoples' decisions in who they choose for President, then I think you are the one who is wearing the blinders. I keep saying the same thing over and over... I'm waiting for that video.

Who cares who addressed who directly. It's a debate, not a presidential candidate cuddle puddle. Obama talks a good domestic game, but there's no way he's going to pay for any of the things he's talking about without exacerbating the catastrofuck of a deficit the government is already in. He had his points though, they both did. McCain was clearly the one with more knowledge in the foreign policy arena though.
