![]() | The latest food to be recalled for high levels of toxic chemicals is...Pretzels
The Canadian Food Inspection agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to eat chocolate or strawberry-flavoured pretzels being sold under the OK OK brand. The items are being sold across Ontario and are imported by Scarborough distributor Dai Jung. The CFIA will continue monitoring as Dai Jung conducts a voluntary recall. The products are labelled: Kaiser Strawberry Dressing Pretzel UPC 4 710757 036608 Approx. 40 g Kaiser Choco Dressing Pretzel UPC 4 710757 036301 50 g There are no lot codes associated with the products. There have been no reported illnesses in relation to this product, however, the warning has been issued as part of an ongoing nation-wide investigation into milk and milk-derived products distributed in Canada from China. Melamine is a chemical used to make plastics and glue. It is used as a compound in a number of commercial and industrial applications. For more information, please contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342. Food imported from China has been under intense scrutiny following a tainted milk scandal that has seen around 54,000 children become ill.

Speaking of....after posting this on another forum someone pointed out that Pockey sticks the Japonese treats were recalled world wide for the same problem......except in the US because the American FDA does not test snack products imported from overseas. They could be coating these things with lead paint and the FDA would not step in. "On September 30, 2008 Hong Kong authorities have announced that melamine has been detected in Pocky Men's coffee cream coated biscuit sticks. The melamine contamination level was found to be 443 ppm (legal limit is 2.5 ppm)."

![]() | Not really that big of a deal, the manufacturer says they pulled all of the tainted products from the store shelves. So unless you happened to purchase them within the two week window before they were recalled, or the manufacturer turns out to be full of shit.......chances are you didnt consume any plastic with your Pockey.
