VP Debate

What did you think? While I think Palin did better than expected, she still annoys the crap out of me, avoids questions like the plague, seems to have ADD or BPD (Beauty Pageant Disorder), and is almost as fake as McCain.

Oh, and her response to the gay marriage thing sickened me. You know, if you oppose 'marriage' for homosexuals, but you are ok with providing them the same benefits and just not calling it 'marriage' because of religious reasons, then you should at least find a way to say it that doesn't make you seem like you are going to throw up at the thought. At least Biden was to the point and didn't seem like he was scared lightening was going to strike him.

Most of the analysts and polls I've seen put Biden ahead in the debate.

Hahahaha! 'To the max'.

I can't even begin to imagine it. That would be grody.

I also didn't like her constant references to 'middle class people like me and Scott'. I know I have nothing in common with her and I'll bet most Americans don't. I sometimes struggle from paycheck to paycheck, I don't shoot guns for fun, I have no issue with providing homosexuals the same benefits as others, I don't think we should be in Iraq... the list goes on and on.

Yeah, I was surprised Biden didn't call her on that, considering that they make well over $200k/year, and have over a million in investments. I don't consider that to be middle class at all.

I thought the true revealing moment of the debate came when Biden choked up talking about his wife's death, and Palin wasn't able to respond with anything besides talking points.

That, and the look on Biden's face when Palin started talking about agreeing with Dick Cheney on the expansion of vice presidential powers. Biden hit a slam dunk with that one, I thought.

All in all, I think that the Republicans are unwilling to face the fact that Palin's woefully unqualified, and gloss over all her faults. Hell, my wife though she was fantastic because she's "a regular person." That alone should scare the hell out of anybody - the leader of this country needs to be fucking Superman, not Joe Sixpack.

Palin's flat refusal to answer any questions she didn't like, and her inability to answer many questions that she did like, will hurt her with independents, IMO. She looked really weak spouting talking points next to Biden's substantive answers and incredible knowledge of the workings of government.

I hated it when they were talking about war...and how she thinks Obama wants to just throw up the white flag and Surrender. you fucking stupid girl....

Looks like McCain and them are ready to send more troops out when Obama is wanting to end this thing and make peace. I don't say this word often b/c I hate it...but I seriously think that woman is a cunt.

I think that was the part I hated the most. It's like she had notes that she kept referencing as if someone wrote bullet points for her that connected any possible question to the answers of 'energy', 'Obama', 'McCain', and 'Just-like-you' responses. They came off as fake. I thought Biden showed amazing restraint from mouthing off, but at least he seems to be 'real'. I'd much rather have someone running the country who isn't afraid to say what he thinks even if his foot ends up in his mouth every so often due to passion, as opposed to... well, her.

Yea, it would be hard for other foreign leaders to take Palin seriously when they're looking up photoshopped pictures of her naked.

I don't remember either one of them coming right out and saying "Hey, I'm middle class too". *shrug*

That career as a Washington politician may be more of a detriment than an asset. The fact he ran against Obama in the primaries, and is now his right-hand man, seems to be coming around on them.

Which debate were you listening to? They had the exact same policy on this.

I had been supporting McCain's campaign up until about two weeks ago... this woman sounds like a complete moron. I've tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but now every time she opens her mouth I cringe. Bad, bad move on McCain's part.

Read.

I never said their policies differed on the subject. I said (in a round about way) that at least Biden didn't have a look of disgust on his face when he stated his opinion, while she got all caught up in her words and didn't even seem like she wanted to comment on it or she would burn in hell.

I got a kick out of bidens smile whenever she said something that was either completely wrong or out of context - then he'd clarify/retort and make a complete ass out of her

I did not appreciate her inability to look at the audience, moderator, or biden. she just kept looking forward knowing that's where the camera was and it felt tacky

biden's "ultimate bridge to no where" joke was awesome

Point of fact.... The VP is paid by the legislative branch not the Executive branch. The VP has zero executive power unless a sequence of emrgency events trigger that authority. The VP is the President of the Senate. The VP is better regarded, constitutionally as a legislative official and a "just in case" in the executive. How we tend to view the VP and the role that Gore (in the first Clinton term anyway) and Cheney played have been significantly more important than prior VPs.... hell Truman wasn't even aware of the Manhatten Project

Both Biden and Palin are, in terms of income as close to the middle class as you're going to get.

Biden's been inside the beltway for 40 years so he's got that distinction but he's no millionaire.

In any event - $200k/year can certainly be middle class whether you think it so or not.

I saw her looking at Biden and addressing him several times... at least she did that whereas McCain ignored that Obama was even there and spoke about him in 3rd person. I would assume that her advisors suggested she make an effort to connect with the American people and avoid discussing issues that she may not know a lot about since she has had so much bad press lately. It seemed to me like her agenda was to talk up the energy issue since she is knowledgeable of it, connect with the American people on their own level (yeah right), sway the topics that she doesn't know a lot about back to topics which she does, and look at the camera and smile a lot while using language that was more 'hip' or 'working man' to try and win over the viewing audience.
