![]() | Health care
So watched the debate last night and hear McCain talking about how Barack wants to mandate that business's offer healthcare. They will get a 50% tax cut so they have an easier time paying for it. If they do not get healthcare for their employees they will be fined. I noticed Barack somewhat avoided talking about the fines? Does anyone know more about this? Is healthcare a right, a responsibility or a privilege?

I don't like either ones suggestions... I'm normally against a lot of regulations, but man... there needs to be a lot more control over those evil fuckers.

Ok I did some research, http://wire.factcheck.org/2008/10/07...ll-businesses/ McCain said that Obama’s health care plan would mandate that “small businesses” provide coverage for their employees and would fine them if they failed to do so. Actually, Obama’s health care plan, posted on his Web site, says: “Small businesses will be exempt from this requirement.” McCain previously used this charge in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. From Newsweek On substance, both Obama and McCain had their moments. Obama dominated the health-care discussion, movingly evoking his mother's death from cancer at age 53 to explain why coverage should be a fundamental right for every American. When McCain characterized Obama's approach as "government will do this and government will do that," Obama calmly reiterated that the only mandates in his plan were for children--who, after all, are "relatively cheap to insure and [shouldn't be going] to the emergency room for treatable illnesses like asthma". Continuing, he explained that for everyone else, "if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it."

![]() | that's about what we'll have left when Obama gets done working his magic No, they are a fundamental issue with risk assessment and actuarial calculations. Eliminating this destroys the ability of the insurance company to spread risk over a large pool. If you cannot deny coverage you don't have insurance you have socialized medicine. Look at it this way. If the insurance company cannot deny converage based on a preexisting condition there is zero incentive for anyone to buy insurance until they get sick. That being the case there is no revenue for insurance companies to pay claims.... they only get bills from health care providers followed up by one premium payment from the patient which cannot even remotely come close to paying the bill. See how that works? Last edited by PETA; 10-08-08 at 01:08 PM. |

Yes I understand how that works. I am just going off my own pre-existing condition experiences. I think it is BS. Just because I had a tooth pulled with one insurance company, got laid off, got another, they won't cover my bridge. BS
