![]() | Getting rid of ol' Abe??
Some old man was saying something about one of the first bill to go to Congress is one having to do with getting rid of the penny and only having every total of denomination end in either 5 or 0. Can anyone confirm this?

![]() | yea, it's sad when your "copper" pennies are electroplated. I suppose that can be said with the others as well...

![]() | That's debatable. Some mintage's have a copper percentage that makes the metal content > $.01. Doesn't necessarily make it cost-effective to melt them down. Unless done on a mass scale. Not sure about newer pennies with only 2.5% copper makeup. Edit: Just checked wikipedia, and it probably doesn't have to be that mass of a scale to profit from melting them down as pre-1982 pennies are worth about $.025 (metal value). |
