Why would production cease? Is no one buying american cars anymore, no. Go into chapter 11 like every other company that's farked it up as bad as you have and deal with it. Government intervention in business went far enough with the last bailout.

On a side note, Bill Heard Chevrolet in Houston which was the largest volume Chevy dealership in the country closed its doors without notice a few months ago. Their employees basically arrived to work one morning only to find the doors locked & nobody home.

if the UAW isn't willing to toss out their contract and permit a reasonable labor cost then no bailout... let them file and use bankruptcy to force a rewrite of the contract.

Where does it stop though? Can 25 Billion actually do anything - if people cannot get financing, then cars cannot be bought. I would like to see a major tax break if you buy a new car - how about depreciation write off and interest write offs for individuals? If buying a new car became financially beneficial, could get the system moving? I just don't know, I'm torn as well - why is it the Governments job to choose what companies live and which ones shouldn't? These companies are too damn big and unions have destroyed them. GM has something like 7,000 dealers with a 20% market share against Toyota's 19% share with only 1,700 dealers. That's just stupid business by the big three!

Well according to Matisfaction, who happens to be an automotive expert, that doesn't have any effect on why GM is failing. It's all because they aren't selling fuel efficient cars.

It depends which companies have hired executives that went to busniess school with the gov't bureaucrat holding the checkbook.... that or hiring a really good lobbyist
