Illegal/Legal Immigration Questions...

My wife is working on a paper for school and needs some opinions of others to add to her paper. She doesn't need to use your name or anything. Just your opinions. So if you want to chime in and help her add different points of view to her paper....post away.

The questions are....

What are your arguments pro and con regarding whether we should grant some type of amnesty to illegal aliens who have been in the United States X number of Years, have been productive, and have never been in trouble with the law? Do we attach conditions to the amnesty? What should they be and how will they be enforced?

Should police in checking for identification also determine legality of residence in the country and when it appears (probable cause) that a person is here illegally, detain the person and contact the Federal Ins?

Impose excessive fines on businesses and seize the business if they have multiple violations. Increase ICE immensely. The illegal aliens would not be here if there was not a market for them. Only through aggressive enforcement can the economy work out what the effects of this newfound lack of labor will be and how we should reform the laws. I'd like some amnesty for my past speeding tickets...not gonna happen. Others should not be rewarded for their illegal actions either.

English SHOULD be the official language.

all this is contingent on the legalization of drugs, cause it aint gettin' here without the illegals.

I feel if they have already broken the law to get here they shouldn't get amnesty. I don't even care if they have been here for 15+ years, have been productive, and have never been in trouble with the law. I think any amnesty for any of them would send the wrong message.

I say give them a chance to move back to their coutry of origin and start over from the back of the line. If there are any conditions attached they should be that the immigrant working toward legal citizenship will get a heavy discount off the costs and expedited paperwork as a reward for being productive and staying out of trouble.

As far as the police checking citizenship once the person does come into contact with law enforcement due to an infraction or breaking the law (further)....I think is a must. This will include traffic violations, car accidents, theft, robbery, domestic abuse, DWI, PI, drug possession, etc. In other words, if you're here illegally...watch your shit or you're going back to wherever the hell you came from.

And whether or not you have an ID (due to fakies out there), if there is probable cause to make the officer think you may be illegal, you'll have to submit to a photo and finger printing. If you refuse, like a breath-test, you will be detained until your identity can be confirmed and ICE can be contacted.

Just on a sidenote, i don't see immigration reform going anywhere within the next 4 yrs, probably longer.

Yeah, its just for her paper. She has to write what she believes and a few opinions of other people even if they agree with her POV. There are like 10 other questions she had to write on but those were the ones she needed additional input from others on.

Amnesty rewards those who broke the rules. Still, we're dealing with the problem we have not the one we'd select. Permit it if they can demonstrate X number of years here of gainful emplyment and tax paying w/not criminal record or civil liabilites (bankruptcy, law suit etc) as well as a demonstrable skill in need in the US. Require them to return to Mexico to file and wait for approval. Fund a dept to expedite and process these applications in as rapid a manner as permit thorough checking.

Fund better border security and vigorously work to deport those who try to cross the border now. Do more raids on employers hiring large numbers of illegals. Arrest the illegals and deport them immediately. Fine the shit out of the business owner - it will not take many to send the message that hiring illegals is not cost effective because of the risk of getting caught. Round up all felons on parole living here as well as those with warrants. Jail those who owe prison terms and deport those who do not. Deport felons after serving their sentence.

Yes but as a discretionary option not mandatory.

Deport immediately. America needs the jobs that illegals are taking. Also, if you can't speak English, don't venture beyond the border towns, because every time I see a sign in English/Spanish duplicate, I try to tear it down or deface it if the opportunity arises. Eventually, I will get them all.

Furthermore, ask any legal immigrant how they feel about illegals.
