What the hell with this Open Carry petition???? Over 30,000 people have signed an on-line petitiion asking Rick Perry to make it legal for them to walk around visibly carrying their hand guns. WTF?!?! Like Texans arent stereotyped enough. Whats the fucking point of this? This aint Bonanza!!! I simply do not get this. Most places dont allow guns inside anyway, so it would mostly be people walking up and down the street with guns in their hulsters looking like idiots. Ugh.

You prefer concealed carry then? The only difference is wearing the gun on an exposed vs concealed holster.

I don't have a problem with it. More people will go around accidentally shooting themselves in their legs. Like Plaxico. I see no better lesson to be learned.

Yes Christian, actually i would rather not have to see a bunch of people walking around with guns strapped to their side like we live in fucking Gunsmoke. Call me crazy. I also do not like to eat beans over a campfire, or riding a horse to the general store to buy sundries

Texas is a "shall issue" state. When a person applies for a concealed carry permit the state "shall issue" the requested permit absent a showing of cause by the state why the permit should not be issued.

Which leaves the only point in controversy to be whether its concealed or revealed.

I don't much like beans nor horses either but gun permits are pretty common... shall issue states outnumber those w/out such laws.

I don't know what to think about all of this.

Something tells me this would alleviate a little bit of the bullshit out there and make people think twice before spouting off about "their right of way" or some other nonsense.

Not entirely true. Most defensive uses of hand guns involve merely brandishing the weapon. In most cases that is sufficient to ward off bad guys. Would be bad guys will be more deterred by the person displaying a gun than by one not doing so. It has a demonstrable benefit. Granted, its marginal (most people will never be mugged) but it still exists for those on the margins.

i just think it helps perpetuate the irrational fear that people have that something bad is going to happen to them whenever they leave the house. It simply is not that bad out there
