Congressman Ron Paul has slammed Barack Obama's foreign policy, saying it is identical to that of his predecessor George W. Bush, proving once again that both parties follow the same agenda on major issues. Paul compared Obama's pre-election promises to those of his predecessor George W. Bush, who before his election in 2001 guaranteed that the U.S. would not be the policeman of the world or engage in nation building. Since the inauguration, Obama has sent 30,000 more troops into Afghanistan and and rapidly expanded the Bush-era bombing raids on Pakistan. "Even though Obama was the so-called peace candidate and was going to bring our troops home from that war in Iraq, I'm afraid there's evidence now that shows he's going to pursue the same foreign policy - which was my argument during the campaign, that no matter what happens, both major parties support the same foreign policy, the same monetary policy, the same welfare policy and there's never really any change," said the Congressman.

I think he always made it known that his focus was gonna shift from Iraq to Afghanistan. We also know he's always had a special place in his heart for Pakistan.

you can't really just judge Obama's foreign policy on Iraq and Afghanistan alone. We're working very hard to drive to peace with Israel and the Palestinians, have already told Iran we'd be willing to sit down with discussions with them, and are also working on mending relationships with other countries. Sorry we can't just pull out of the two clusterfudges his predecessor left us with.....

Iraq isn't a clusterfudge though. It's got the most stable functioning democracy in the ME.

He can get us out of Afganistan by leaving Afganistan. He is bent on escalating the war there. We've got better troops, equipment and other technological advances the Soviets didn't have but they went in with iirc, 400,000 troops and couldn't hold Afganistan. It is not going to be winnable with just the military and Obama must know that. That begs the question, what does he hope to accomplish with our presence in Afganistan, especially after the Pakistani gov't ceded control of the Swat Valley to the Taliban.
