Unemployment extensions?

anybody here familiar how that works when your balance runs out the first time? Also how much more longer the extension is?

You are ineligible to collect again until you a) make another (insert current amt, i think it was like 8 g) and, or wait 'til next year (which makes no sense cuz if you don't have wages next year to take uic taxes out of you have no claim anyway)

As far as extensions go, that would give you however many additional weeks the govt. extends benefits by, without re-filing. UIC benefits are an insurance program with premiums paid by workers thru payroll taxes, like SS or SSI. The benefits were shortened back in the 80's and again the 90's with AFDC benefits and disability being reduced as well. There once was general assistance available for those in dire circumstances who had depleted UIC benefits, These, though they had to be repayed, were eliminated completely. Despite what was sold as a huge expenditure and lazy people bankrupting the govt. These programs were a pretty small slice of the budget pie. Eliminating them, according to most studies of long range effects of reduced welfare spending, has cost a lot more in the long run. Payment to the companies that manage the former AFDC caseload often exceed the cost of food stamps. Food stamps return the greatest amount of economic benefit of all government spending, welfare to work programs are always among the biggest net losses,ranking slightly better than tax cuts.
These were sold with appeals to resentment of "lazy welfare mothers". I've never met a welfare recipient I would trade places with, they just don't live that well. Neither have I met one who wasn't ashamed enough already without being scapegoated for problems they didn't create. If we really cared about our children in this country, we would admit that having a mother there instead of working several minimum wage jobs not only helps a child become a productive adult more than punishing their mother, it frees up jobs for able bodied adults who need them. Same with disability cuts and mental health benefit elimination. The homeless problem generates multiples of societal costs that the former housing programs did. Its time we got smart instead of self-righteous.

i would visit your states online website for unemployment, that usually tells you how long you have left, and you can re-file as well.
